  1. I was induced with both of my kids so Ill tell you what my experiences were.

With my daughter I went in to the hospital at 6 am.   They got me in my room, gave me my gown and had me get dressed.  I got in bed, they did all my vitals (temp, blood pressure and so on) They got my IV started then hooked me up to the baby monitors (heartbeat and contractions) Then I just had to wait for the dr.  The dr came in around 8.  He checked me, I was at 2 cm, he broke my water (doesn't hurt at all, I didnt even feel it) and started my pitocen in my IV.  Then it was just time to wait.  I got my epidural around 9 am.  The dr came in periodically came and checked me.  Around 230 pm I was finally 10 cm.  I pushed a few times then when the baby was crowning the dr and nurses got dressed and with a few more pushes she born at 2 36 pm!

With my son it was all pretty much the same thing except I was 4 cm when the dr came to check me at 8 am and my water broke while he was checking me.  Around 930 I got my epidural then had to have it adjusted at around 1030 since it only numbed one side of me.  I feel asleep at 11 am after the dr checked me and said I was 6 cm, woke up at noon exactly with a lot of pressure.  The dr checked me and I was 10 cm, I pushed 6 times and my son was born at 12:17 pm!

The hardest part is the waiting but if they give you pitocen it should go pretty quick.  I would wait as long as you can for your epidural (if you plan to get one)  just in case you have a long labor it doesnt wear off.  After they break your water your contractions do get stronger INSTANTLY! I loved being induced and would do it again all over again.  It was an amazing experience and you forget about everything when you see the baby for the first time.

I opted for my epidural as soon as I could get it with my first (even though I was barely in pain) because it was the only time I could get it due to the availability of the anthesiologist and I was scared of the pain.  WIth my second I waited as long as I could and couldn't do it without the epi.  I would do it again though because I think my labor and delivery experiences were wonderful because of it.  In my opinion I dont think I could enjoy everything as much if I was in terrible pain, with the epi I could relax and take in my surroundings and made sure I could remember everything about the day.  The epidural was actually the ONLY thing I was scared of when I went into the hospital to have my 1st but it didn't even hurt NO where near what I thought it was going to.  I was really surprised when they said they were done.  It barely pinched!     Its totally up to you what you chose to do but dont be afraid of getting an epidural if you need one.  Its a great medicine.

Good luck.  I'm sure everything will go very smoothly.  Congrats on the new baby!

  2. Depending on your dr they will put a small tablet thing up by your cervix to soften it and help with dilation then they will give it some time to work next comes pitosin to induce contractions but if you start to contract and dilate by yourself then they may just break your water. Make sure if you are getting drugs you get them before that happens because as soon as your water breaks it hurts really bad. Anyways they will explain it all to you when you get there good luck and speedy labor!

  3. Congrats! I was induced 3 weeks ago. Well let me begin: they will most likely give you pitocin... which speeds up and regulates contractions. This is very useful in getting your body to naturally push the baby down. They will also measure you. If you are 3 cm or more dilated they may break your water. Which will also speed things up. If they do decide to do this, it does not feel good. It doesn't hurt, but there is a lot of pressure. And then it feels like a waterfall flowing between your legs!! They may stretch your cervix as well... but it all just depends on whats going on down there. They may make you lay on your side to help the baby drop down farther. If you get an epidural, this will all be a breeze. It was an amazing experience for me... but my epidural wore off right at the most painful part... lol. There are also other methods, but these are the ones they used with me and from what I hear are the most common.

Also, just a word of advice... get lots of rest! I slept for MAYBE an hour because I was so nervous. That was not beneficial. I ended up being sooo tired! Which increases pain. But honestly... you should be fine... once you are there your body will know what to do. All you need is to focus on something. Whatever you feel makes you comfortable at the time. (I watched tv). And you will be so amazed at the result!! When my baby was born I expected to feel instant love... and I did... but I was more in "awe" from it all. I looked at her and could hardly believe my eyes. I was amazed that I made a human. Its a crazy feeling.

    Good luck and congrats!

  4. you can expect a normal delivery, they are just going to break your waters for you. you'll be fine and just think that tomorrow night you'll be holding your beautiful bub!!! good luck.

  5. Ask for lots of popsicles. I did. I felt silly and it kept my mind off of pain. I got my epidural after 1 cm when I was induced because the pain seemed to be coming faster than a normal pregnancy. But it is all worth it and they have medicine that is wonderful!

  6. I have been induced twice.. My babies just did not want to come out.

Well lets see, You will be given that lovely hospital gown that is open in the back. Then when you get into bed , They will hook you up to a I.V    Then you will be given the medicine through the I.V that will induce your contractions. Once they get going strong your water might break on its own. Or they will break it for you. Dont worry it doesnt hurt.   They break the bag of waters with a pointy stick.

Oh yeah I forgot you will be hooked up to the baby monitor. So they can watch the babies heart beat and  stress level.

Good luck.. Just think Tomorow you will get to see your baby for the first time.:)

  7. First of all...CONGRATS! Make sure you get alot of rest tonight. There are a few different ways of being induced. The most common way used, is pitocin. They will hook you up to an IV and drip the Pit into your system. This will start the labor process and you will be on your way. After awhile the Dr. will break your bag of water to get things moving along faster.....

As far as the words of comfort go.... relax! Enjoy this experience as much as you can and you will do great. Congrats again and you will have your sweet baby soon. Good Luck!
