  1. Are u kidding me? LatinAmericans are very tolerant and do not care if you speak Spanish or not, you are a newbie in the classroom and they want to show you around!

have fun, i went to the caribbean colombia and had a wonderful time, the people are super-friendly.

  2. overall, yes if you're dealing with the tourist trade - hotels, restaurants, clubs, museums, etc.  once you get off the beaten path, it becomes tougher to communicate in english.  in bogota, there are always english speakers around.  but not so many in medellin and atlantico province.

most colombians that do speak english with a heavy tongued accent, so you'll have to listen carefully and piece together the syllables in some instances.  but it's worth it, colombia is a beautiful country with beautiful people.  most of them are friendly and helpful.  you will be surprised how much spanish you learn while you are there.

  3. From my own experience traveling in Colombia I would say yes, most people are tolerant of non-Spanish speakers.

That said, why not take some Spanish lessons while you are there. It would greatly enhance your future travel experience to any Spanish speaking country. As a bonus you will be able to talk to 300 million more people in the world. Colombia is a beautiful and vibrant country.I hope you can include the historic walled city of Cartagena in your itinerary.

    Have a great trip!
