  1. Dog can delever puppies ok their own, it's an insticnt. I dont know why people insist, on calling a vet or "helping" them deliver, unless there is a major problem.

  2. sorry I am against back yard breeders, or ones that do it for money!

WE HAVE SOOOO MANY UNWANTED DOGS IN SHELTERS RIGHT NOW.  YOU SHOULD CONSIDER SPAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Good lord - under "why not to breed" I would place you first - what a dumb, sad, irresponsible thing to do.

Your pits name may be Saphira, but she's a mutt, the shelters are full of pits about to be euthanized for lack of homes and you, in all your ignorant splendor, want to breed more.

Please - knock your head against a wall until you get some sensible thoughts -- and a conscience.

  4. DO NOT BREED YOUR DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  i CAN'T TELL YOU ENOUGH HOW I AM AGAINST BACKYARD BREEDING AND BREEDING PITBULLS AT ALL!  I HAVE 5 PITS NOW AND THEY'RE ALL RESCUES.  THEY'RE FROM MY RESCUE AND WE HAVE TOO MANY UNWANTED PITBULLS AS IT IS MANY OF WHICH ARE PUPPIES.  MOST PEOPLE SAY WELL I JUST WANT TO BREED THEM ONCE AND KEEP ALL OF THE PUPPIES WELL DO YOU REALLY KNOW HOW MUCH IT COST TO TAKE CARE OF NEWBORNS?  YOU WILL HAVE SPENT ALMOST OVER 1GRAND IN SHOTS AND DEWORMING PITBULLS NORMALY HAVE 5-6 PUPPIES IN A LITTER BUT SOMETIMES THEY CAN HAVE AS MANY AS 10 PUPPIES.  I HIGHLY ADVISE YOU NOT TO BREED TO BREED YOUR DOG.

SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS COMPUTER IS ACTING UP.

  5. Okay you need more info and I will cut and paste answer that gives resources but also you need to think about some things... breeding is not cheap and at 150 you may not even recoop your costs.  with the larger breeds you will be going through tons of dog food, probably a little more than the cost of 1 puppy for just after the pups are born not counting moms nutritional needs during prego.

If parvo hits during their time when total protection is not always there you could be hit with 1200 per pup to save them. Even if you have the skills to nurse through yourself it could be several hundred dollars or the equivilent of another 2-3 pups.

There are vet visits for prego and afterwards.  ete etc. etc.  My son always get big eyes when he see us sell goldens but he doesn't  take into account how much it costs to get there.. including a good kennel set up and inside set up etc.  Even on a shoestring the expense mount up.

Okay you don't know if dog is in heat, how often, or what to do, or you think your dog is pregnant, when its ready to give birth etc etc etc ?

If you are asking this question you MUST read up and have material on hand and if your dog gives birth.  If you are in time sensitive situation  check your library or local bookstore!

This book is a good one.

http://tinyurl.com/5kcnmk If you cannot wait you might be able to get it at barnes and noble locally. There is also a breeding for dummies book Take a look at the books and the information they will provide.  some of the sites that compare like amazon have a review also.

YOU NEED to get educated and FAST as pregnancies are only 63 days and it GOES fast.Build a list of three books and go pick them up locally or order from my site which whatever. If your dog is birthing or just given birth it is not to late as the best books deal with care afterwards of mom and pups.

Just get some material to have on hand! Find a mentor in real life someone that has gone through this before.

  6. It's people like you who cause the over population of Pit Bulls.  Only 1 in 600 Pit Bulls will be rescued.  The others are euthinized or die after being abandoned.

And you want to improperly breed your young dog?  And you obviously have no idea what you are doing, if you have to ask this on YAHOO.

I suppose you don't intend to take her to a vet?  Or vet the puppies?  You just think your some tough guy, breeding Pit Bulls.

Nice work.  You are officially helping give this breed a bad name and proving you are a terrible dog owner.

  7. Her second heat?

She's to young. No dog should be bred until at LEAST two years old.

How do you know she's breeding quality? What health testing have you done.

Please have her spayed, you're not ready to be breeding any dog.

  8. This is a horrible idea.  There's no reason to create more puppies.  You're not health testing, you're not proving your breeding stock, you're just out to make puppies because you have a girl dog and someone else you know has a boy dog.  Spay your *****.

  9. First of all, it's APBT !!!

Secondly, at her second heat, she'll be TOO YOUNG to breed.

Thirdly, you don't know enough about breeding yet to allow her to breed.

Finally, you need to learn all about OFA testing, Cerf testing, and other health tests so you can ensure she doesn't have pups with genetic defects.

You need to talk to the breeder you bought her from to learn more about breeding.  You need to get a mentor who will help you learn all about, not just delivery, but heat, mating, pregnancy, labor AND delivery, plus what to look for if she's having an emergency.  And you have to have the pups vet checked to ensure they are healthy and give them their first puppy shots.  YOU are not ready for her to breed. -!-

  10. You'll be lucky to get that much for any pup. You can cruise through any local shelter and adopt one for much less.

Add to that, she's too young. Two years old is the minimum age for breeding any dog - young females tend to reject pups due to being too immature and it's possible that carrying a litter may cause problems in her development (may tax her and weaken her.)

And what about genetic testing to prove health and to make sure the pups don't inherit any life threatening or painful diseases? That can't be done until two years of age.

My question for is is "why do you want to breed her." You won't profit from this - if done correctly you won't even break even. She doesn't need to have pups, especially at a young age.

The only advice i can give is to find some sort of breeding mentor. You can't leans anything you need to know by reading or watching videos. You need hands-on experience. Here's a list of what you'll need to know:

  11. second heat is still too early to breed.  She needs to be at least 2 years of age.  At 2nd heat, she'd only be about 1  - 1 1/2 years old.

This doesnt really sound like a good breeding.  Breeding should be done to better the breed, not to create more puppies.  For one, she doesnt have a good temperment "skittish sometimes" is not good.  No papers?  Then how are you keeping record of and researching the pedigree for health issues, temperment, faults, etc?

Also at her age, you dont know yet if she's really healthy enough.  "Had all her shots" doesnt count.  At 2 years of age, dogs need to be tested for genetic health problems, OFA, CERF, BAER, Optigen, etc.  BOTH dogs need these tests to assure that they are not passing diseases on to future generations.

You really need to do more homework and research before you consider breeding.  You need an experienced, reputable mentor who has been breeding dogs responsibly.

We euthanize alot of pits and pit mixes in this country.  Its hard to find GOOD homes for pits.  Many shelters automatically euthanize any that come into the shelter for that reason.

  12. Please don't breed your dog. There is no need to, just go look at your local animal shelter there are PLENTY of pit bulls in there...if they don't kill them immediately for being an aggressive breed. Plus if your dog has any physical or mental flaw she is not fit to breed. Skittish is not good, her puppies will most likely be skittish too and then what are you going to do if your stuck with a bunch of puppies that no one wanted?

Sorry I didn't answer your question, but I hope you see why its a bad idea.
