  1. Get a Tikka T3 uddy, one of the smoothest actions and best out of the box accuracy rifles money can buy nowdays.

I also agree put a good scope on whatever you buy. u can spend 7000 on a rifle but if the scope is c**p the rifle is c**p. It's only as good as the worst component. with my rifle thats me LOL.

I have attached a link for a guy with a new .270 but ur basically getting the same thing, just a bigger cartridge. Its a fairly good review.

    Happy huntin. Witty

  2. I have owned 3 different brands of 7mm, one being BDL, a ruger, and a savage.  The best brand far as money and shooting was the savage the scope is what makes the difference.  Get a high quality scope to go with your gun and you can't go wrong.  Savage will be about $3-400 dollars less than any of the others and just as accurate.

  3. that savage is a bad ***.

  4. I have spent thousands on a gun that i liked. i have purchased all brands from browning and a few top of the line custom made guns. I found a good 300 win mag from savage that is just as accurate and some times more accurate than this top of the line firearms. find a savage that has accu trigger the lbs of pressure to pull the trigger helps alot . but howa makes a great rifle too and it is made with the great same care as the savage rifle .

  5. I highly recdommend the Stevens 200, which is identical to the Savage, except it has a synthetic stock and an older style trigger (which can be tuned).  The street price for these brand new rifles is under $300, like this one:

At that price, you will have money left over for a decent scope, rings, and mounts, plus a couple of boxes of ammo to practice with.

I have one of these.  The neat thing about it is that you can swap out the barrels and, if necessary, the bolt head, to configure this rifle for multiple cartriges.  I have a 300 Win Mag barrel, a 30-06 barrel, a 25-06 barrel, and a 6mm Rem barrel.

It is a great bargain, and as accurate as any other factory rifle.  It is kind of ugly, though.

  6. That's a LOT of gun.  More than you need for most hunting in America.  It will sure make a mess of a white tail deer.  However, take a look at the Savage line of rifles.  You can't buy a better shooting rifle right out of the box than a Savage.  They are known for their accuracy.  The kicker is that they are very reasonably priced.  Take a look at them, I think you will like what you see.

  7. I agree with Crista.  The Stevens 200 is the best deal going in a production bolt action rifle.  If you have $700 to spend, you can get a fantastic hunting rig by going the Stevens route.

I have a few barrels for mine, and the reason the Savage/Stevens rifles are so accurate is that because of the barrel mounting setup, you can control the headspace.  You will need a couple of special wrenches in order to remove and replace the barrels, though.

I own quite a few hunting rifles; several of them are custom built.  The only ones more accurate than my Stevens are the heavy-barreled varmint rigs.

  8. savage is a great gun i have one myself, i love it...but i also have a remington and its really nice to....for the money you cant go wrong with savage...its just as accurate

  9. The cheapest one i can think of is the Tikka T3, The tikka is about $560 and it has the 2nd smoothest bolt and has very increadable accuracy
