  1. not realy the hard drive. mainly the ram and chip.  and i would choose more ram over a faster chip.

  2. You are looking at three variables used for different purposes. Each benefits in a different way. The hard disk is storage, the larger, the more storage. The more stored, the slower the access time because it takes longer to find and load the pieces of a file. CPU speed is just that, the faster the clock, the faster a given program will execute. RAM space means that once loaded, a file accessed a 2nd time is much faster than the initial read from the hard disk. More RAM space means less hard disk access with repeated use of the file. The first time a file is accessed, the speed is limited by the disk access time, but the 2nd time, it is read from memory in a fraction of the hard disk access time. The CPU always executes a program from memory, so the only limiting factor is if the whole file is not in memory, so the process slows to the disk access speed for loading the parts not in memory. You goal is to achieve a balance, deriving the benefits as much as you can from each variable. Buy the most you can of each, for whatever your budget will allow. I would favor CPU speed and RAM space over hard disk space. You can always get a bigger disk later if your budget is limited now, but CPU speed is fixed for life, and RAM space may also be maxed out in the particular model you end up buying.

  3. It's all relative to what you are doing. Do you have a lot of music and a lot of photos?

    Will you be downloading movies?

All are important. The truth is, most laptops are all going to offer pretty much the same options. So its a matter of price.

Personally though, I want the most of all three that I can fit in my laptop.

If you go with a mac laptop. It will be speced our with an even balance depending on your price point (whether its budget or all out).

If you are a student you get a great discount too!

  4. They are all important, as they work together to perform. However, if you are not worried about it, and just want basic usage, I'd recommend just getting a 1.83ghz processor + 1GB or more RAM, and atleast a 40GB HDD.

  5. all are important for what you want
