Before you go, change your plan with your cell phone company to world wide. But ask the rates first.  You will probabally still get some roaming charges, but ask your carrier.  If you call from the ship, it will be outrageous! And a calling card will take tons of minutes.  I went to the Eastern Carribean last year, we called one time, and that was the last time!

I go with the calling card idea for sure. Every trip out of the USA we purchase a calling card. They work very well.

One thing to stay away from is using your "Credit Card" in Mexico you are charged a premium each time you use your card. Just ask before you use it they will tell you how much they have to charge. It can be 5 o/o to 10 o/o depending on location. Cash is the best purchasing tool.
