About 3 inches from the end of one color, lay the tail of the next color along the top of the stitches and work over it.  At the last stitch of this row do the last yo with the new color and then lay the tail of the old color over the top of the stitches and work over that for 3 inches, cutting the tail when ready.  Do this for each color change and you won't see the tails and they won't pop out.
