I am going to get Cockatiel in about a week is CALYPSO a good name?

I just wanted to get other peoples oppinion on the name THANK YOU. Oh and can a 12 year old take care of a cockatiel. THANKS AGAIN

I LOVE Calypso. It's tropical, fun and just the right kind of name for an exotic bird.

As for if a 12 year old child can care for a bird, the answer is... maybe. I would say make sure the child knows that the bird is a serious pet, and that he understands the proper way to take care of it. Maybe have a bird expert explain the care of the bird. Or perhaps buy a few books on owning exotic birds.

I think Calypso is a great name! I love it when pets have unique names... some of my birds are called Othello, Chanderpaul, Goober and Blimpit...

With a lot of dedication and a lot of care a 12 year old can certainly take care of a cockatiel. You will need to spend a lot of time with it. Make sure it gets enough exercise (at least 2 hours a day flying out of the cage), is safe from open doors, animals and other dangerous situations, and get a balanced diet including lots of fruit and veggies.

Make sure you do a lot of reading and learn how to take care of him properly. Remember that cockatiels can a very long time (10-20 years) so make sure you are willing to take care of one for that long.
