I am getting another parrot but i can't decide between a Parrotlet or a Quaker. I need one that is not as loud and one that is relatively easy to take care of compared to the other parrots. it also has to be good with kids and be able to stay home when i'm working. i can get it a companion if i need to. which one would be best?

  1. PARROTLETS!! you dont need 2, one handfed one is the best pet you can get, you can get many colours. Get one from a breeder than was handfed and after it is weaned and ready to bond.

parrotlets do not have the ability to scream which makes them great for appartment dwellers also they are compared to their cousins the amazons. Parrotlets are truly parrots. They are very quiet birds but have the ability to speak fairly cheap ranging from 100$-300$. Also great for workers or ppl at school. As long as they have a good sized cage and plenty of toys they are good while you are at school or work. But they will happily greet you when you come home wanting to be with you. also when you are not home they will not scream.  At a young age you should introduce them to kids. It is said males tend to have a favourite person but tolerate other people handling them but females tend to be 1 peroson birds and will bite anyone but their owner. Of course every bird is different but that is what they say in general. If you do get a companion you must do so at a young age because they dont get along with other birds and will attack them. Also it will loose its pet quality and bond with the other bird and will not want to have anything to do with you.

  2. a green cheek conure will be a good smaller pet because they are very sweet and playful, but if its a quaker or parrotlet you want, go with the parrotlet.

  3. Hello.

AS Ms Collette said ...Quakers are very loud and it is not good in some states . Parrotlets are smaller , less noise and to me, they are so adorable . ( That's why I have had 15 breeding pairs ...lol...) You have to get the hand fed one if you want to be bonded and not bite . If you don't know any breeders near you , go to www.hoobly.com and find a breeder near you to buy the baby one. Have fun ! TM.

  4. Quakers can be very loud and are illegal in a number of states.

Parrotlets aren't loud birds and are generally considered appropriate for apartments - however they aren't really good around small children because they are so small themselves.  Many die in accidents:  they are stepped on, sat on, etc.  They may also be nippy around small children.

Have you considered a cockatiel or a budgie?
