There are a lot of choices now a days when you want to re-render a pool. Shop around and don't believe everything the first bloke tells you. As a general rule the smoother the finish (finer aggregate) the less algae growth occurs, and is easier to brush off. A good modern render finish should not require brushing to remove calcium precipitation during curing.
