  1. my wife and i (american citizens) went to ireland in 2003; our passports were stamped "permitted to land in ireland for three months"

  2. If you are a student a you can stay as long as your course of study is (after you pay for it in full).  You have to register with the Garda Siochana (police) and receive an 'alien registration card' with an expiration date (usually a year).  You have to submit many documents: proof of medical coverage, a letter from the university, proof of sufficient funds, etc.

To stay and work in Ireland, you must have a job already guranteed in Ireland:it must be a job must be in a certain sector, e.g., nursing, architecture, IT.

If you are a visitor, you get 3 months.  It can't be renewed unless you get a job or become a student.

  3. I assume you are referring to the Republic of Ireland. As a Canadian, I got a stamp for 3 months (though I was just there for the week). Anything longer that you would either have to

    a) apply for a visa (student, working etc.)

    b) leave the country and re-enter the next day for another 3 months (verify with boarder control!)

  4. if you are planning on moving there or living there long term contact the irish embassy in canada or the canadian embassy in ireland, check info about visa's etc. if you are looking to stay you will need property www.sherryfitzgerald.ie is great for rented property and property for sale, or www.flatfinders.ie also have lots of accomodation to rent. jobs aint that bad to get at all.
