I'm going to japan next summer (june or july I'm not sure yet) and i was wondering what i should bring as far as clothes go, because i don't want to waste suitcase space on a jacket if its going to be blazing outside. also im climbing fuji and i was wondering if that requred anything different to wear than if i was just sight seeing. i also live in florida and am perfectly comfortable wearing dark bluejeans in 90 degree heat so if you live in someplace cold and you say its going to be really hot.... well we keep our houses at like 85 most of the year just to give you an idea of what is normal for me. any advice would be much appriciated Thanks!

  1. If you climb Mt Fuji at night, it is cold, you should bring a sweater.

And, I don't think you can't climb fuji in June, July and Aug are the best for climbing fuji, but it is really hot and humid in summer in Japan. and June is rainy season.

  2. You will need a very warm jacket to climb Mt.Fuji.

You should pack light clothes such as t-shirts(It is hot and humid in Japan in June and July), and one thin rainjacket.

Other than that, I suggest that you do NOT bring a suitcase, but cram all of your belongings AND an empty carry-on bag(could be foldable backpack) inside a large backpack that has wheels.

Doing this has the advantage of not having to check your baggage or to wait for your baggage to arrive on the carousel at the airport(could take 1 hour or longer, depending on how many flights are arriving at the same time).

As well, having an extra empty bag will give you enough space for souvenirs you want to bring back.

And, the reason for the wheels on the main backpack, of course, is that if it gets too heavy, you can simply pull it along with you.

Furthermore, when doing a lot of traveling in Japan, you will find there are practically no coinlockers which can accommodate Western-sized suitcases.
