  1. Try the Peace Corps.

If you wanna bow out, might as well do something worthwhile for yourself AND others.

    Good luck dude!

  2. Congratulations. Good choice. How about becoming a monk who does social work on a tropical island? :)

  3. Disappointment awaits, because the real adventure is within.

  4. Lindy the Goth has stated the approach perfectly.  Perhaps she's a "fellow" INFP  :))  We are all different, and have different/unique needs.  Personally, while i'll still chide myself from time to time for being completely fed up with the 3rd dimension, with the exception of being out in nature, very far from the madding crowd, i love being  physically alone. I say physically, because if you have any expertise in esoteric matters, you might know what i mean.  There's plenty of good company to hang with, if you have the appropriate level of "initiation"  :)))

While some of the self proclaimed "enlightened souls"  on the planet would probably not approve of reclusiveness as a way of being :)), who cares -- it suits some of us, and that's just fine.

Anyway, if you choose to experiment with the "life style", it's not an irreversible election, you can always go back to "normal" life, if you can really stand it.  Obviously most can, through one means or another  :))

  5. why not become a hermit in the comfort of your own home? you can get just about everything on the internet you would need, no human contact  required. You can pursue your own interests at your own pace. It is actually much farther removed from society than becoming a monk or social worker, those are just trading one society for another and I think you'll find it doesn't make that much difference which society you are stuck with, people do the same things everywhere. Home hermitage or becoming a recluse is also easier and much more practical than a desert island, they are not easy places to survive, with limited food and fresh water, extreme sun and heat,  hurricanes, and  lack of access to the most basic medical support ( if you get a scratch that becomes infected it could be life threatening out there).

  6. Well to do social work you would need to go back to school and social work is NOT bowing out - it is actually bowing into society.

Depending on the monistary - some monks don't really bow out either...

So I'd say the island bum is theonly one that will allow you to bow out.

    DA

  7. "Society", as "we" know it, involves -- nay, **requires** the interaction of two or more people on a daily basis...

If you are going to truly leave what "we" call "Society", your best -- and only -- option is to become a total hermit. That means no contact, for any reason, with anyone else for the rest of your life. There will be nobody to talk to, nobody to turn to when life becomes "unbearable", nobody to take you to the doctor/hospital when you are injured....completely alone.

Do you really think you can handle that? Do you really want to? Last year I was going to pack up and leave, and live as a hermit -- until I realized that I would most likely never be able to see or talk with any of my family ever again.........
