I am going to rome where is the best place to stay?

I go to Rome about 6 or 7 times a year. ~I stay at a small hotel called the Dina, about 100 yards from Termini the main railway station, right in the middle of Rome.  Its not luxury but its very handy for most of the sights as the buses leave the Termini for everywhere in the city every 10 minutes or so.  I go on business as the suppliers are all located in the area around the hotel.  If you want to see the city its a good place to stay.

The Hotel in the link is one block from both trams and is just across the river from the Forum etc. (walking distance) it's are more resdential area -- Trastevere -- thats safe but has restaurants and nitelife.

me too tho just outside rome,cant tell you the best places but i can tell you that youll eat the best and freshest food youve tasted and soooo cheap,the only warning is its a bit claustrophobic  witht he traffic and heat

Avoid staying in pensions.  A friend and I just came back from rome.  We booked a room in a pension called Hotel Marco Polo.  When we got there they said that they didn't have room for us due to construction but, they would put us in another room.  We went to view this room & it was really small.  We later found out that it was a hostel.  It costs 30 euro to stay there for a night.  In addition to that, Marco polo would not give us a discount for staying there.  They wanted to charge us 140 euro.  This was the price for staying at their hotel.  Instead, we ended up staying at Hotel Marghera. It is close to Marco polo and the train station.  It costs a little more but, it's worth it.  It's really cute.  The breakfast is not so bad either.  You can have chocolate cake for breakfast.  They also had these tiny crosants that were filled with cream.  The staff is also really nice & friendly.  The owner knows the pope and has a cute dog that we saw at the hotel.
