I was thinking about a 1.0 Litre petrol Vauxhall corsa (1999 year model) just to get me from A to B

Could you tell me the pros and cons of owning this car.

I am not bothered about "how fast" or "street cred rating"

Thank you for your answers.

  1. What is a "gas guzzler", is that a car, or a political statement?

If this government is so anti, why does it recommend converting to gas (LPG)?

  2. Sounds like a good plan to me!  A Corsa in England will be fairly cheap to maintain also.

You could find out the MPG of both of the cars then calculate how much money you will save on fuel to help you justify the decision to yourself (if you haven't done so already!)

  3. I'd do your sums carefully before you sell your (presumably good) car which does 25-35mpg and buy an old (unknown quantity) car which might do 40-50mpg. It might seem like you're going to save money, but if the new secondhand car needs any work doing (like, why is the owner selling it in the first place?) you might end up very out of pocket, especially if you only do a low annual mileage, like under 6,000 a year.

  4. I can't get on with small cars...  I have a Mercedes 190E (which is the smallest Mercedes saloon) which is fast enough, safe, relaxing and comfortable to drive.  I'd sooner pay a little more in fuel than sit in a tinny little Euro-hatch.

  5. Yes OK the one you are buying  . Problem  might be that no one will want your guzzler .  At any price,,, My sons family has 2 cars  .  one is a big Chrysler.   only 18 months old.  He thought the same,  but cant get a part exchange at all  ...   Only a ridiculous offer  , So he is keeping it.  He doesnt fancy losing several thousand pounds,    The future for 4x4's and bigger SUV's  in UK is very poor . ... Even America is d ownsizing a lot .  Sma  ller European cars  now being extensively marketed

  6. You`re bound to be pounds better off, as well as the higher MPG you will be in a  lower road fund band and possibly lower insurance premium and you will get a little inner glow when you see the fuel gauge dropping slowly instead of plummeting.

  7. What kind of 2.0L is a gas guzzler?
