I am going to start helping a sunday school group, what do i do?

I will help a 2nd grade group on the 1st and 2nd weekends, and a 1st grade group on the 3rd and 4th weekends. I have no idea what to do.

The schedule is: sing songs with the large group, go back to small group and learn the lesson, then do the craft.

I have absolutely no idea what i should do, what I should say, who i should talk to, if I should sit at the table with the kids or stand and supervise, or what?

I'll be helping an older person with the group.

Ask the person you are helping what they want you to do. I would think you would be standing beside them, rather than sitting with the kids.

As co-youth director with my husband, as well as previous SS teacher, I will guarantee that the older person you are helping out already has a cirriculum and all of the details ironed out for you.  What you could do is give them a call before you are scheduled to start and ask if you could bring anything (snack, juice, etc.) for the kids, or if they would like you to do anything in preparation before hand.  Sometimes if there is a craft and there is "cutting out of patterns" to do it goes smoother if the patterns are precut for the kids and they just have to glue them together.  Things like that.  This way you are also introducing yourself to them.  If you don't have their phone number, and it's not listed, then call your pastor and request it - he/she may also be able to lessen your anxiety a bit before you start.  Children are the most forgiving and have the most fun of all ages!  If you get at the table with them and talk to them, just like you talk to anyone else, they will know you are being true & honest.  Respect them like the "little people" they are.  Kids see through fakiness more than anyone I know!  Good Luck & Have Fun!  I guarantee you will gain more from this more than you'll ever guess!
