OK I am travelling to the Dominican Republic on the 10th of June and I need some help with a few things.

I am from the UK.

1. What is the weather like in June?

2. What is the best currency to take? Peso or US dollars?

3. Should I take a jacket/coat?

4. How much money will I need for a weeks holiday in an all inclusive holiday?

5. Do I need insect spray?

And any other info would be amazing!

  1. the weather in june is about 110 degrees in june. its better to use peso because they wont take us money. you should just in case it rains. about1200 dollars at the max. YES YOU DO there are so many bugs there its not even funny.

  2. 1. warm

    2. dollar (i think personally)

    3. sweater (no jacket or coat)

    4. maybe $400

    5. yes!!

extra: when packing your bags, put the very important stuff way down at the bottom and the less important stuff at the top. pack everything accordingly and make important things hard to get to. Sometimes people like to go through your bags (at the airport) and you end up missing something. true story.

  3. Weather in June is the same as the rest of the year... H O T HOT H O T! When you arrive, you may make change for your dollor at a currency exchange place, which I recall can be done right a the airport or at any bank... Take a light jacket for those places that are air conditioned and insect spray is good for any traveling experiences! have fun! As far as money, I am not sure if you are american or european, but either has alot more value... Example $1 American Dollar  = $14.00 Domincan... (I havent been there in a while)...

  4. 1). It will be hot.

    2) US Dollars are preferred in that part of the world although they will take you Euros too.

    3) Leave the coat at home. This is the tropics.

    4) Unknown as I do not know what level of entertainment, dining, etc you seek.

    5) YES. Dengay Fever is a nasty little "event" that you will want to avoid.

  5. Well, the weather in June will be very hot, and dry!

Don't have dollars, they don't like them, have only pesos!

I'll suggest you to take  a jacket, i those countries you never know, because the weather changes veryvery often and quickly!

Erm..don't take too much money, it could be very dangerous.

And definitely YES, take a spray against insects!

Dominica Republic, is a very nice country.

But remember that inhabitants know that you are rich!( because from Europe).

So, every time you want to buy anything, YOU chose the price! Not them, or they'll say IMPOSSIBLE prices.

If you have problems with the police, just don't care, they only want to cause you problems, give them like 10pesos, and they'll let you go!

    Have a nice holiday ;)

  6. They are in their summer there, so it is going to be quite hot. Only exchange your money once, so if you're exchanging pounds change it to pesos, if you have american dollars already you might as well take them. Don't forget to take a lot of small bills for tips and stuff, the locals will really appreciate it. Take a light jacket just in case it's chilli at night. If you're staying all inclusive you don't need much money, just for souvenirs and maybe a meal out if you get tired of the hotel food. YES bring bug spray!! There are a lot of mosquitos and sometimes it is hard to find spray that contains DEET there and that's what makes it work.

The Dominican is in a bit of a political turmoil. Don't be surprised to see many people begging on the street. It may be hard to see, especially the children. If you can bring food for them, and make sure you don't dress like you have a lot of money with you. Stay in the populated hotel areas and HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!!!!!

  7. my family is from the dominican republic and i have been there many of times i will tell you going in June it is going to be so hot. It is amazing there. They take both currency and when you buy things in the markets you can bargin. I usually go and stay with my family most of the time but i went to an all inclusive resorts and it was great. I'm going back next year when my little one gets bigger. I would really recommend staying at one. Since you are staying in the summer you are not gonna need a jacket. I'm not sure about your weeks holiday because i don't really know what you will be doing but for the inclusive you won't need much everything is included food, non-alcoholic drinks, alcoholic drinks. I usually don't go during the summer but i've heard they could be bad so i would recommend that you bring some keep in mind that this is an island and it can get very humid.

  8. I know that this place is cheap

  9. OLA LITTLE FLOSSIE. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE SPENT MOST OF THE LAST 2 YEARS LIVING AND WORKING IN THE D.R AND HAVE BEEN ALMOST EVERY WHERE ON THE ISLAND , IM SURE THE EXPERTS THAT TAKE THIER OCCASIONAL 3 DAY PILGRIMAGES AND ARE READY TO WORK FOR IDIOTS GUIDE TO THE D.R AFTER 1 VISIT CAN EDUCATE YOU BETTER THAN I WILL.   BUT IM GOING TO THROW IN MY 2 PESOS ANYWAY .    JUNE CAN BE VERY HOT AND HUMID AS IS MOST OF THE SUMMER SEASON . YOUR POUND GETS TWICE AS MUCH AS MY DOLLAR . JOLLIES FOR YOU BABY . EXCHANGE WHAT YOU NEED WHEN YOU ARRIVE AND DO IT AGAIN WHEN YOU LEAVE AND IN BETWEEN AS YOU NEED IT AND ALWAYS EXCHANGE YOUR MONEY IN THE BANKS OR EXCHANGE CENTERS IN THE AIRPORTS.  NEVER EXCHANGE WITH STREET VENDERS AND TRY TO CARRY AS MANY SMALL BILLS AS POSSIBLE. GETTING CHANGE  CAN BE A  FRIGGIN  DENTISTS CHAIR . DONT BE BUGGED ABOUT BUGS . YOUR BETTER OFF SPRAYING YOURSELF WITH THAT FAKE AND BAKE TANNING STUFF.  BUT h**l, IF IT MAKES YOU SLEEP BETTER , GO FOR IT . HOWEVER, WITH  THAT  ALL OVER YOU, YOU MAY BE CHASING AWAY MORE THAN THAT IMAGINARY INSECT PROBLEM  EVERYBODYS GIVING YOU THE WILLIES ABOUT . DENGUE FEVER ? I THINK . , BUT YOU  WILL SCRATCH . TO ANSWER 4 AND 5 GENERALLY , THAT ALL DEPENDS ON THE BOYFRIEND YOU WILL BE SUPPORTING. OR  GIRL ?         THAT SAID, HAVE FUN ! 12. Just wanted to insist on insect spray! Dengue Fever is on the rise all over the American tropics.  I got it just this Christmas in Mexico.  It is a very, very horrible illness.  There is no vaccine and no cure.  The only way to avoid it is to wear insect spray - morning and evening.  You are much less likely to get Dengue staying in a tourist hotel, especially if it has air conditioning, but take precaution.

  14. Hi Flossie

Arrived back from the Dominican this morning the weather was HOT so it should be the same next month.

At the present time you are getting 33 Peso to the US Dollar & 64 Peso to the Pound.

You dont need a jacket only when you return to the UK I came back in shorts & T shirt although the sun was shinning it was still cold

Unless you are going on any of the excursions you dont need much money the truck safari was 103 US Dollars the Catermarra nwas 133 US. We went up mount Torres on our own which was a lot cheaper the the operators charged 180 Pesos each plus taxi from the Riu Merengue was 10 US

I have just come back from the blood bank was  bitten alive by the MOSSIES.

Spent a few days shopping in Puerto Plata a lot cheaper than the shops in the complex and the locals are very friendly but a h**l of a lot of poor children begging in the streets.

Yeserday was the day after the election for a new President & trying to get to the airport was caous.

Hope this helps & have a great holiday

PS waste of time sending post cards they still have not received them after 2 weeks

  15. i was there last year in end June n going this year end June again and for all inclusive not much if going on lots of trips like dolphin swimming safari etc prob about 300 pounds are you all inclusive 24 or just all inclusive i am 24 which meant every thing free 24 hours a day were is just all inc you'd have to start paying at certain time at night for anything drinks food etc i recommend dollars as every were accepts then and if you really do need  peso you can exchange there and dollar is so easy to use 100 pound is 200 doll er as for the weather is is v hot and showers last minutes and people sit out because goes off as quick as started and the rain is actually hot as well if your prone to be bitten like me lol id use insect repellent but i recommend cod liver oil which you can buy at vitamin stores take 2 week before go and whilst there there fairly cheep and work better than the sprays lotions and saves the hassle of rubbing on lastly i usually just take a light jacket/zipper which  you probably won't need hope you enjoy your holiday the people are lovely you ll love it and i found trip adviser.com really helpful gives advise reviews etc hope i helped xx forgot to mention i take small things like deodrant toothpast soaps ect for maids ect there so gratful for then and out in the streets there a lot of children begging it reminded me of bulgaria when i went there so dont carry alot of money if venturing out going beach ect
