  1. The Grandstand is one step above the infield. You will find women in dresses as well as shorts. That being said, t-shirts are rare and I would suggest a blouse as well as some kind of hat (as well as sunscreen) since the terrace part of the grandstand is not covered. There is also the possibility of rain, and since umbrellas are prohibited you may want to take some clear plastic for protection.

  2. You can skip the hat, but I've been to the Derby, and EVERYONE looked good. You could wear pants, but wear a nice blouse or something, and if you're with a guy, slacks, collared shirt, and jacket should be fine.

  3. The 'area with t-shirts' is known as the Infield. If you have seats, you are expected to wear both a dress and a hat. It is tradition that females dress in this manner, as men will be also dressed traditionally in suits and ties. Go to www.courierjournal.com to preview previous Derby attire as a reference.

  4. On the terrace you'd wanna dress a little bit nicer than t-shirts! You don't want to be on tv-when they scan the crowd looking out of place!  Dress up a little and remember even Queen Elizabeth of England is coming in that day!
