Question

with a international adoption? She volunteers at a orphanage and works for the government. Would either of those two things help expedite the procedure? She keeps saying just come adopted a child, no problem. But I am thinking she is over simplifying what needs to be done. I realize I would need a home study but what really can she help with over there to get the ball rolling? She has a very influential government job. But knows nothing really about adopting internationally. Thanks for any info you can supply on my question or in general about adopting from the Philippians to USA.

Due to it being in another country and you have to deal with their government, i would go about it through an agency that is reputable and knows the ins and outs of adopting in this particular country.  you can get really screwed and/or in huge trouble through their government.  what if you go to the orphanage, pay them thousands of dollars and then try to leave the country and they wont let you get a passport.  what are you going to do then?  You need an agency to hold your hand through this process.  Really you do!

You will need to go through a reputable US agency.  The Philippines has an international adoption board that oversees all adoptions.  There is a lot of paperwork that needs to be done.  The American Embassy in the Philippines is the 2nd busiest in the world.  It takes time to get the baby a passport. You can't just fly over there and pick out a baby!

If you are a Philippino citizen, check with that government. You will still need to read the US info to find out how to bring the child back to the USA.
