  1. Stamina, stamina and more stamina.  Running 3 miles with a 40 pound ruck sack on your back, pushups- and situps.

These are usually followed by throwups, by the way

  2. My ex was a marine and said that if you work hard and get in top shape, the physical aspect of it isn't that hard- but that they WILL find some way to break you down. Maybe he just had bad luck?

  3. Lots of running and arm strengthening exercises like push ups dips and you might want to get started, or at least try, pull ups...

    Good luck

  4. Learn to take Orders without Question that will be #1.Then you will need to Run ,Jump,Swim, assemble and dissamble your best friend.Good Luck and Thank You

  5. Run. Be able to run 3 miles in about 27 minutes, which is what is required at the end of your training, which is part of the Crucible. Make sure you can do a substantial amount of push ups, crunches, and pull ups. If you can do all that, you're golden.

  6. Just ensure you can run for about 30 minutes non stop...The distance is not important as long as you can last for 30 minutes..You do not run every day in boot camp and you start off at about 1.5 miles and you work your way up slowly.

Just be very flexible. You need to be able to climb ropes, walls, bars and similar obstacles. Practice the basics such as leg lifts, push ups, pull ups and sit ups, crunches..Stretch all parts of your body.

On my profile page you can click the link there. It is for future Marines. You can read and watch boot camp stories and videos and all your knowledge is there for you to learn.

You also should ensure you have all of your USMC knowledge memorized. Boot camp is not all about PT.

  7. There is alot that you have to get ready for, physically and mentally. First lets start with the physical. Your IST (Initial Strength Test) will make you or break you, that lets the Drill Instructors know who is strong, and who they need to break off in PT (Physical Training).

First you need to work on your pull ups, that is the most important because they count for the points, and that is what the DIs harp on, the most that you can do is 20, make sure you lock out the elbows after everyone though or it will not count.

Second you need to work on crunches, these count 1 point a piece and the max that you can get is 100. You will have 2 minuted to do as many as possible, and trust me it hurts, you really have to pump them out.

The last part of the IST is the running portion, now on the IST you will only run a mile and a half but you need to be training for the 3 miler because that is one that is gonna count. If you go ahead and train for the 3 the mile and a half will be a breeze. Passing your IST is an easy way to become a guide or squadleader which will get you a promotion in the end.

For the mental, just know that you will constantly have someone telling you what to do and when to do it. They are going to ride you hard. Just dont break and dont show them that you are weak. Also remember that the Marine Corps does not have Drill Sergeants, we have Drill Instructors. That will get you destroyed in a hurry. That is about it. Good Luck and Semper Fi
