Take your laptop in its own bag as a cabin baggage. Remember to take it out from the bag in every X-ray/security port. If you have more than 2 batteries its handy... if you have headphones its handy also so you dont disturb people on the plane. Mmm im out of ideas hehe hope it helps.

Before your hook up  your laptop in FRANCE ...check with Hotel's Customers Service- to find out  what you have to do so you can operate your LOP TOP safe.

Definitely get a universal travel adapter in order to be able to use your laptop connected to electric sockets in France. Make sure to take your laptop with you on board when flying. As someone already mentioned here, you will be required to take it out of the bag at airport security controls. For the long trip, you can put your own music and entertainment to your hard drive. In that case, headphones will definitely come in handy :)

There are many many WiFi hotspots in France, some with free Internet access (e.g. many McDonald's in Paris, some hotels). French people usually have long lunches, so if you leave your laptop in a meeting room during lunch, just in case, get a laptop lock.

Get an ac adapter so you can plug it in in France. Bring a network cable just in case there is no wireless access.

If you have a laptop lock, it is good to take it with you, so you can lock it to a solid object when you leave it in your hotel room.

And take your laptop with you as often as you can to diminish the risk even more.

You will need a plug adapter, but most likely your charger can take 230 volt (check it, it will say 100/240 or 110/230 or so on it,) if not, you might just replace your lead to the mains with one that can handle 230 volt.
