I am a teacher's aide at a New york day care center.

My boss is Jewish and I'm Black. All of the teacher are black even the community is black. Now I'm not a raciest because that's not how I was raised. she's 65 and she treats us like we are her slaves

The teachers and the parents don't like her either and she has shown how she don't care about the children. she took her vacation on the day of the children's moving on ceremony the parents really didn't like that. And she has done so much more. We have been going through this for 4yrs. What can we do about her racial undertones?

  1. Well...

    1. You can quit / switch jobs / open up your own day care

    2. You can talk to her about it (could make it better or worse)

    3. You can keep ignoring it until she quits or retires

    4. You can talk to her superiors (boss, owner, school board, etc.)

    5. You can contact a mediator to sit and talk to the employees and her together.

    6. You can try suing her for racial harassment in the workplace.

If it is so obvious to everyone and especially if she really doesn't care about the children anymore, it probably would be best to try #2 first and if it doesn't get better fast, then do #4.  But why has it taken so long?

  2. She treats you like your slaves? Like she makes you work? Thats what bosses do. Unless you means she bought you at auction and whips you then stop complaining

We all get bad bosses now and then deal with her or find a new job unless she is using racial slurs or something.

  3. Start a petition to get her fired or at least file a complaint against her with witness and names

  4. There should be a community board or parents association.  Parents can report her business to the better business bureau. You can make an anonymous complaint to day care licensing. If there are staff meetings and other staff feel the same way maybe it could be addressed in a meeting.  Or you final resolve could be to request a private meeting to air your concerns.  If all fails start looking for employment elsewhere.  Most importantly document everything-dates, incidents, behavior, specific remarks or comments made, especially if this is a case of discrimination report your complaint to EEOC.

  5. There is someone above everyone. Unless she is the owner of this company I would highly recommend you and the other employees, along with the parents who feel she is being a little corrupt in nature go above her. There is no reason the parents, staff, or children should have to tolerate those types of behaviors.  Go above her, and make things happen.
