(i know idiot right!) I think i be over analyzing

Know which nations are Arab and which are majority Islamic.

All Arab nations have a majority Moslem population (usually the Sunni the dominant sect – only Iran, Iraq and Bahrain have a majority Shiia population.)

However, there are many nations with a majority Moslem population which are NOT Arab (all the “stans” such as Pakistan, Turkestan, etc., Indonesia

  1. Arab means your descendants/family/ancestors originated from the Middle east or you identify yourself linguistically or culturally being Arabic. Being Muslim means that you are practicing the RELIGION of Islam.

So someone can be Arab (family is from middle east) but be practice christianiy and Not be a Muslim. And you Can be a Muslim, but not be Arab because you're white, asian, black, etc.

  2. Only three-four countries from Africa are all arabs, that is, Egypt, Tunisia, Sudan, Morocco. There are others too, but not entirely arab.

From Middle East every country bordering Saudi Arabia is Arab.

Not all Muslims are Arab; many arabs of Egyot are Christan's too.

  3. Not all Middle Eastern countries are Arabic, some are muslim nations. If you could specify the countries you would like to know about, I'll try my best to tell you which is which!

  4. Miss South Carolina, is that you?

  5. There are Christian Arabs in Israel and probably Palestine and Lebanon.

    Most Muslims are not Arabs.

By far the biggest Muslim nation is Indonesia with around 234 million people, most of them are Muslims.

Malaysia itself is Muslim.  Some people in Thailand are Muslims.

Iraq is partly Arab and partly Persian, which sort of explains some of the fighting in that country because Persians and Arabs do not get on.  And in addition there is the division between Shiite and Sunni Muslims in that country.

Iran is mostly Persian, much of Afghanistan is Persian too but includes Mongols and some of the people who lived in northern India.  Pakistanis are mostly indistinguishable from Indians except for religion.

Some people in China are or were Muslims.  Turkish people are usually Muslims but they are Turks, not Arabs. Most of Turkmenistan has a related population, surprising to say.

Some of the old Yugoslavia is Muslim and those people are no different to the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Christian population.

Much of northern Africa is Muslim. Egypt is partly Arab but is still probably mostly the old Egyptians who built the Pyramids etc. Many people in North Africa are not strictly speaking Arabs, they are Berbers and some are descendants of ancient Greeks and Carthaginians who settled there in ancient times. Many of these people were once Christian during the times of the later Roman Empire,

Algeria, Mauretania and Libya may be mostly Berber, but well mixed with Arab and European.

Most Muslims south of the Sahara, specially in Mali and Nigeria are Africans.

Islam was originally an Arab idea but it spread. There is little genetic difference between the Arabs and the old Jews of the Biblical Israel and Judea, they are cousins if not brothers.

  6. Islam has grown significantly to become the second largest religion in the world.  Islam is growing at a rate of about 2.9 % per year which is faster than the total world population growth of about 2.3 % per year. It is therfore attracting a progressively larger percentage of the world's population, and is expected to take over from Christianity as the largest religion on the face of the Earth by the year 2025.

The Times reports that Islam has already taken over Roman Catholicism to become the world's largest single religious denomination, according to L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper. Figures for 2006 showed that Catholics accounted for 17.4 % of the world population while Muslims accounted for 19.2 %.

  8. i must say that's a silly question,

any nation in the middle east is an arab nation, having said that, it should be an original nation, therefore, Israel does not qualify.

any nation from say, Sudan to Yemen all fall in this category.

quote "all the “stans” such as Pakistan, Turkestan, etc., Indonesia"

do not fall in the middle east, pakistan is in the indian subcontinent,

indonesia is nowhere close,  Turkestan(turkmenistan) is former soviet.

    hope that helps you...

  9. Whether a country or person is Arab or not can depend on a few things: ancestry, culture, or location.  Check out the wikipedia article below for a thorough discussion that should clear up your question.

  10. Islam is a religion for one. Just like most central/western European countries aren't "ethnically catholic", they just have Catholic (religious) majorities. Iran isn't an Arab country. Arabs are a linguist group--that's it.. we aren't related to each other (genetically), we just speak the same language (Arabic). Those who speak Arabic are Arabs, but not all Arabs are Muslim, some Arabs are Christians (like my family). Islam was started by a Bedouin Arab, and it's because of Islam that the Arabic language spread, but that doesn't mean that all Muslims are Arabs or all Arabs are Muslims.  The people of the near-east are for the most part not Arab by ancestry, but Arab by linguistic factor. Since Iranians don't speak Arabic--they're not considered Arab (a minority of them do speak Arabic though). Do you understand?

anees, no not every nation in the middle east is Arab.. you should feel silly for saying that.

btw, "stan" means land in Persian.. it's just that they adopted the persian name for that specific country.

  11. I think you are refering to Iran as having an Arab nation state. It isn't. The majority of Iranians are Indo-European, and also a large number of Azeris who are Turkic.

All the northern African countries from Moroco to Egypt refer to themselves as Arabic nations, although in Egypt there are many people of the Coptic/ Christian faith who are not Arabs bur are decended from the ancient Egyptians.
