I am keeping my ComCast Cable for only TV, but want the Verizon FIOS internet and phone. I currently have Verizon DSL and a Vonage line and its actually the same price to get faster internet and a phone that isnt the worst phne ever like vanage ( the ohone goes as fact as my DSL takes it). Will he be able to run wires without using the coaxle cable already installed as I need those clear for the Cable TV. Does the tech dig in front of my house? The service is available in my area, I just dont understand how the wires will get there. I do not want the triple play with them so i would apprecite just getting the answer on the technicalities. Thanks for the help!

  1. If your current drop is aerial, it will stay aerial.  If it is direct buried you will have to provide a trench.  If it is in conduit you will have to provide a "pull" for the fiber.

Since you are not going FIOS TV, your pc/laptop will be wired via ethernet wire.

We cannot take the coax out of your current video providers point of contact since you will still be using it.

  2. Before the install, a contractor runs fiber underground up to your house.  On the day of hookup/install they don't need to do any digging.  We were home when they ran the fiber and asked them to run it along the property line and then into our garage (where our existing telephone box was) but they'll run it up to wherever the phone (telco) box is on your house.

I'm not sure how that will work, they could probably splice into your existing cable because MoCA (the coax protocol Verizon uses) can coexist with Cable TV and Satellite signals.  Or they may run Eithernet to wherever your computer/office is.

If you have a preference where things run or how it's hooked up, the installer can probably accomodate you.  They were very good when we got FiOS and kept things out of the way.

  3. When we had ours done there was no digging.  They actually ran it from the power lines (or what ever they are).  Followed them to the house and they ran wires along the house (very discretely).  We had comcast phone/cable/internet prior and now all Verizon.  Much cheaper for faster internet and have had absolutly no problems.  Very happy we did it (had for about 8 months now).
