Can anyone tell me what you experienced and WHY you had one? did it hurt? and can it help you be a little more fertile afterwards as I have heard that it "cleans out the cobwebs"

  1. is that the same as a dnc?  are you getting a cleaning, like a scraping out of your uterus.  i had that.  yes, it can help you be more fertile.

the procedure did not hurt during, because i had no memory of it. there was some pain afterwards for a few days, but they give pain pills for that that helps.  wishing you the best!!!!! ps i don't remember why i had one done.  all i remember was the doc said i needed it.  if i am wrong about what kind of procedure you are having, i apologize.

  2. an hsg checks to see if you have any blockages in your fallopian tubes.  i will probably have to have one done in a month or so.

my doctor said that it is "uncomfortable" and there is some cramping.  they inject a radioactive dye in your uterus and watch to see it go through your uterus into your fallopian tubes.

sometimes, you may a small blood clot and the dye knocks it loose (or "cleaning out the cobwebs" as you put it!) making you more fertile afterward.

the procedure takes about 15 mins and they give you ibuprofen to relieve any pain.

    good luck!

  3. I think it is more used as a tool to help with the diagnosis of why you may not be able to get pregnant.... BUT coincidentally I do have a story about this. My sister-in-law was TTC for over 2yrs with ENDO, and had HSG done to see how bad it was. Right after the procedure (Feb.) she got pregnant with her first, and she is due in November. I don't know if this was just plain luck, or if it helped. I can say for sure it definitely didn't hurt her chances.  We were all surprised, and happy for her.  Good Luck! :)
