I am having a few people round for a barbecue.?

Yup,  I think you're spending too much time worrying about entertaining folks!  If you have a pool, then have a swimming party.  Let the conversation go where its going to go and everyone enjoy themselves.  No pool?  Then make sure you have appetizers while the food cooks, or have a theme barbecue  wherein everyone comes dressed or brings a dish that reflects the theme.  Another thing is to set up an outdoor movie night with a portable dvd player/projector.  Have s'mores after the bbq and let everyone rate the movie.  Most of all, have fun!

It depends on the age group of the people

see us as teenagers you can give us some marshmellows, Monsters, and music and maybe some chocolate to go w/ the marshmellows.

Now if your going for over 21 (they will need a designated driver) alcholic beverages is the way to go.

For the entertainment part maybe you could listen to music or play a game outside with the fam. (if they're there) Just socialize i don't know really.

Wii is good. It will help a lot. When you get to the 20-23 range, you don't do a lot of the "partying."

I'd say no more then 1-2 beers per person; if they want more they can bring their own. Keep taxi cab numbers on hand in case someone gets drunk (unless you want that person to be arrested for a DUI.)

Perhaps you can all watch a movie or just talk and have fun.

Have some good upbeat music playing in the background.

Set up a card table for anyone that might want to play cards.

Is it all adults??  If so, add some alcohol to the menu.  Not enough to get everyone plastered, but maybe some wine to compliment the food.

If there will be kids, you can have all kinds of games set out for them.  I've set out waterguns and a bucket of water so they don't keep going inside to fill the gun, and just turn them loose in the yard.

Adults don't really need a lot of entertainment to have a good time.  After a whole week of work, it's nice to just sit down and relax with friends.
