  1. maybe. different hospitals have different ways

  2. You will get an IV before you go into surgery.  That's not too bad, it hurts just a little bit for a second.  When you actually go in to the operating room they will put a mask on your face, that stuff REALLY stinks, you'll try to push it away.  The next thing you know you'll be in the recovery room.

  3. They have to start an I.V. on you, but they're making the needles so small now that you can hardly feel it. If your nervous before the surgery tell your dr. and he/she can give you something to calm you down. Don't worry, it ain't that bad.

  4. I'm 19 now and I've had that kind of knee surgery twice--both ACL surgeries on my right knee.

Yes, they put you to sleep. They'll put you in one of those beds that roll and sit up, lay you back and cover you with blankets--cause the anesthesia and only wearing a surgery gown thingy will make you cold. They'll make sure you're very comfortable, and eventually give you a needle in the back of your hand that will stay there for a while. They put tape over the needle and leave it, and after a while connect the anesthesia with an IV through that needle. I don't know if it would hurt to move your hand once it's in there, so I never moved that hand.

Don't worry about it, they give you a little needle prick before that IV even goes in that helps to make you a little sleepier and makes you not worry about a needle in the back of your hand. Waking up from the anesthesia after surgery is the worst part. It doesn't hurt or anything, but both times I was extremely woozy and sleepy feeling, but not needing to go to sleep. It's like being drugged--lol even though you were.

    You'll be fine.

  5. Sorry, yes general anesthesia is given intravenously. But seriously, suck it up, its not that bad. By the time they give you the shot you will start to fade and wont remember it anyway.

  6. I had a total knee replacement.

Two valium to calm me down and then an intravenous line with the happy, sleepy stuff. Next thing you know you are waking up.

  7. they didnt with me

  8. yes they do ......

but there might be something they can do to make the whole thing less stressfull. ask your parents to please mention this to the doctors and im sure theyll do what they can to accomodate you.
