I have tried mowing more slowly. Same problem. I have had the blade of the mower sharpened, no help. I am sure to mow when the lawn is dry, but still I am left with uncut blades of grass sticking up everywhere. My lawn is St. Augustine.

  1. Here are the causes and or recommended solutions I found on the web.

    1.  The motor isn't on full throttle.

    2. The blade is upside down.

    3. The grass is too high when cutting it.

    4. Overlap your cuts.

  2. My ex used to leave "mowhawk" stripes when he mowed.  Idiot boy insisted on keeping the wheels of the mower in their own rutts, flattening the long grass in stripes.  I'd just watch and laugh.

    Overlap your passes.

  3. lol I bought a riding mower 2 years ago and swear I have not saved any time or effort with the switch. I seems like I have to hit those pesky blades 2 or 3 times from differing angles, by the time I'm done I've mowed the whole yard at least 2 full times. Thank goodness fall is almost here and I'm not missing any football.

I know you said you had your blades sharpened but after a while the tips of the blades wear as well and leave gaps. You might wanna think about replacing them. My 42 inch deck has 2 blades and the replacements are 20 bucks, so I don't even bother with sharpening.
