I am having a stapedectomy tomorrow and I have a sore throat, maybe strep. Is this going to delay my surgery?

  1. You need to tell your Dr since the ear, nose and throat is all connected. The Dr can check it for strep before he does your surgery. He may delay your surgery if he has to intubate you because that will make your sore throat worse. You just need to tell him and he will know what is best. If he goes through with your surgery ask him to give you plenty of antibiotics by IV so your throat can heal after the stapedectomy. Good luck on your surgery.


  2. You should definitely 100% tell your doctor or anesthesiologist about this first off.  There is always a chance for infection with any surgery, but if you already have a pre-existing one, especially in such close proximity, it can absolutely cause a big issue.  You do not want a post op infection.
