use a small turkey baser insert in center or just get the real thing ( some hot freaks)

i use a straw to suck up the cream.. then use a pencil to push out into the cake...

its the perfect amount for cupcakes

make sure the cake is not too hot or cold.. just above room temp is best...

I wouldnt use cupcakes... I'd have eclairs!  Much truer to the shape.  THen you would put the cream in the middle with a pastry bag and tip.

The cheapest and easiest way if you don't want to invest in pastry bags is to hit the supermarket.  Near the boxed cake section they have cheap plastic cake decorating tips.  Cut the corner out of a ziploc bag and put the largest tip inside the bag.  Fill the bag with whatever cream you are using.  Poke the tip in the bottom of the cupcake and just add about 1 tsp. every inch or so depending on the size of your cupcake : )

Soak some wood in water overnight.

Wood dowel or chopsticks cut in half.

Then bake the cakes with the sticks in them but only place the sticks in them after the cakes have risen a bit as to hold the sticks upright.

Remove the sticks after baking and insert the filling immidiately,using a cake frosting decorater,or just make an icing sugar glaze and watch it drip in slowly..
