  1. Prepare, prepare and then prepare some more. Make sure you have your audition piece completely nailed so that can virtually do it on auto pilot. This will give you more of a chance to truly express yourself if the piece is ingrained in your mind

  2. We get so self-conscious and nervous during auditions, don't we? I think I'd rather visit the dentist. But seriously, some things that work for me:

Practice practice practice. Know the piece cold.

If you can, play or sing in front of others - family members, friends - just to get a bit more comfortable with the idea.

Remind yourself, when you're in the audition hall, that they really want you to do well. They're looking forward to hearing you play/sing. They're on your side.

As a choral director said to me once before I did a solo: Breathe. Slow, deep breaths. Deep breathing tells our bodies at some level that all is well. That will help calm you down. (Link w/ more info on deep breathing and relaxation, below.)

It also helps me (I sing) to look over everyone's head and sing to the back wall -- as if I'm singing to a friend who's sitting back there, and I'm singing just for her.

Remember to smile - you'll feel better and appear confident.

    Best of luck to you!!

  3. What kind of audtion is it???
