The party is for adults and a few teenagers. I need help in planning a meal that is easy to serve and includes starters, main items and dessert. Drink recommendations would also be appreciated! Thanks!

  1. jello salad

  2. Cheese Fondue, Pastry Wrapped Sausages (Pigs in a blanket) Ambrosia, sweedish meatballs, Casseroles (Like anything with a can of soup in it)

    For Drinks Beer or Sherry.

  3. I think you should have prawn cocktails and seafood platters stuff like that

  4. Having read the others answers, and lived in the 60s that your asking about.

The food at parties, would be; dip/w/vegies, and the Dinner!

Dinner is the whole organic approach, all the foods are fresh.

  5. Gotta have those little 'cheese and grape kebabs' cubes of cheese and grapes on a toothpick!

    Mushroom vol au vents?

Cocktail sausages on a toothpick of course!

  6. Fondue

    Tang

    Tunnel of fudge cake

    Here are some more ideas

  7. Definitely fondues....pigs in a blanket are always a sure thing...jello salad for sure.  I don't think I would bother with a main course.....just have plenty of finger foods and appetizers to pick from.

  8. SmileVol-au-vents filled with mushroom and bacon prawns or chesse, cheese and pineapple on sticks, sausages on sticks, little bridge rolls filled with home cooked ham or egg and cress, the salad was always layered lettuce, egg, toms etc, sausage rolls, pork pie, black pudding ,home made piccalilli, pickled onions, trifle, a sponge cake filled jam and cream and more trifle.

  9. Early 60's was the same as the 50's .... late 60's was the Hippie era - which is your theme?

Early:  jello mold, hamburgers, fries, milkshakes & floats, mac & cheese, meatballs & franks in crockpots for appetizers, brownies, spice layer cake, Orange crush drink

Late:  granola & trail mix, onion dip & chips, marinated shrimp, tofu,  lasagna, casseroles, brownies with oregano (not for flavor, just "texture" ala Alice B. Toklas brownies), chocolate fondue with fruit to dip ... we did punches with dry ice in them (horrible combinations like strawberry soda & vodka!). Fresca, Tab

  10. The dreaded Gelatin  Salad--make gelatin  as usual,  preferably lime, but use something like a bunt cake pan for a mold and  when it's almost set,  add fruits like green grapes, cherries, apples, canned pineapple, etc. Whatever fruits you like, the more the merrier.   Don't forget to add mini marshmallows, or regular marshmallows, cut up into quarters.  The cheese ball is another idea.  Let cream cheese soften until you can mold it, then roll it into a ball and roll the ball in ground peanuts.  Serve with crackers.
