  1. Statistics show that it's usually bright and sunny for the Rose Parade on New Year's Day.  That's when so many people back East decide to move to California:) ...  But, the weather can't be counted on to be pretty and warm - especially near the beach.  You definitely need a back-up plan, in case of rain.  And, if it's at night, you'll need to have alot of outdoor heaters and a tent......

  2. cold and cloudy with a bit of confettie

  3. You're asking us to predict the weather on January 1? That's a bit of a reach. Generally, temps are cool, in the upper 30's/low 40's at night, and anywhere between 50 and 70 during the day. It hardly ever seems to rain here on New Years, as evidenced by the Pasadena Rose Parade. So expect very cool temps with little chance of rain.

  4. The comments about the Rose Parade are true, but Pasadena is away from the beach. Even during the warmest times of the year, the beach is about 10 degrees cooler than the rest of LA. During the winter it's even colder.

If you haven't already set your location, my suggestion would be to check out some of the nice hotels or restaurants that has a beautiful ballroom with a fantastic ocean view. That way, you'd be comfortable and still have the beauty of the ocean as your backdrop. There's also the Wayfarer's Chapel (the Glass Chapel) in Palos Verdes (north of Dana Pt). It's small, but it overlooks the ocean and is very beautiful. http://www.wayfarerschapel.org/

  5. Freezing at night, Cool days.
