Anyone had this done? Will I be OK to come back to work on Monday? I will wear eye patch only on the day of the surgery but will be putting antibiotic cream in the eye for 5 days and was told by the consultant that I need to take extra care to protect myself from infections in the days following surgery. I work in an office so nothing overly dusty, but am I risking going in two days after the operation? What would you do?

  1. A friend of mine had an operation like that and I was present!  No,  worries,  it heals immediately.

  2. Assuming there are no problems with the procedure and it is a minor one. You should be OK for work after 48 hours.

  3. The recovery time for this is short, so you should be fine.  Of course if you feel differently after the procedure then you shouldn't feel bad about taking extra time.  Another post mentioned that antibiotics would have taken care of this, which is simply false.  That person confused a chalazion, which is a sterile cyst, with a hordeolum, which is infected.  The only other option for a chronic chalazion is a steroid injection, which has lower efficacy especially on larger or older cysts.  The surgery is minor and quick.

  4. A Chalazion is a cyst on the upper or lower eye lid and is caused by a blocked lubricating gland under the eye lid an operation does seem a bit drastic as there is no guarantee they cyst will not return a good anti biotic would have done the job equally well you will need to keep the eye covered for at least a week and make sure your hands scrupulously clean before applying the ointment
