My pumpkin was planted in June, my daughter grew it in school. It now only has male flowers and in the day it droops in the heat. It can get up to 120 degrees up here. I live in northern California. Is there anything I can do for my daughters plant. What kind of pesticides can I use around fresh fruit.

  1. It is probably too late to get a pumpkin to grow this late in the year but you can try next year.  Plant it in a hill with plenty of room around it.  They will grow in heat but if it is that hot you might want to put a sprinkler on it and keep it moist. It actually doesn't really matter what time of the day you water but if you choose to water in the middle of the day you are going to have most of the water just evaporate. Best to water in the evening or even have the sprinkler on it at night.

It is going to wilt in heat that hot. Seriously it doesn't get that hot there does it?

Anyway plant three plants at a time to ensure that you have enough flowers.  One plant isn't enough.  You could go ahead this year and try to plant a couple more seeds and see if they produce. You might get a teeny tiny pumpkin for your efforts.  I don't use pesticides on my plants so I don't know what to tell you about that.

  2. 120??? and your in NORTH cali??? wow.  im growing some pumpkin plants myself.  What you need to do is water them in the morning/night.  NEVER in the midday.  also USE BLOSSOM PLUS right now...since they are budding

  3. you cant grow a plant in that type of heat!

  4. I hope this site will help you to grow huge pumpkins. Good luck!

  5. my pumpkin leaves are wilting also, I switched from watering at night to watering early in the morning, seems to help a little. I use miracle grow spray to fertilize, and mix dish soap and water to spray for bugs.

    Good Luck
