  1. Well, you could have over extended your ligaments, and one popped, perhaps the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) which joins the upper leg with the lower leg.

Its functions are to keep the tibia (the shin) from sliding forward on the knee. The ACL is what supports your knee, and keeps it stable. So, if you noticed a pop during or after your run, when you where coming to a stop, then that's what it is. But to be sure, the syptoms are as follows:

**Feeling or hearing a pop in the knee at the time of injury.

**Pain on the outside and back of the knee.

**The knee swelling within the first few hours of the injury. This may be a sign of bleeding inside the knee joint. Swelling that occurs suddenly is usually a sign of a serious knee injury.

**Limited knee movement because of pain or swelling or both.

**The knee wobbling, buckling, or giving out.

**After an acute injury, you will probably have to stop whatever you are doing because of the pain, but you may be able to walk.

**The main symptom of chronic ACL deficiency is the knee buckling or giving out, sometimes with pain and swelling. This can happen when an ACL injury is not treated.

You're going to need to use an elastic bandage to gently support it as it supports the weight of your body and consult your doctor. He/she will be able to x-ray/MRI your knee to find out specifically what's going on.

  2. First of all, GP means general practitioner, which is who you should see about your knee.  Until then you need to ice to reduce inflammation then switch to heat to reduce pain.  Begin with ice, switch after seven minutes to heat, then back to ice.  Begin with ice and end with ice, that is what I've always been told.

Do not freeze or burn yourself.

    Get thee to a doctor.

    Knee problems only get worse.

    Sorry about your discomfort.

  3. see your gp
