First off, I bouight some black liquid eyeliner, some blue eyeshadow, some red lip liner, and some pink lip gloss, all from hot topic. I broke up with my boyfriend recently and I want to start looking better. Sexier. But the prob is. I've never worn make up in my life, never applied it, nothing. And when I put it in I look goofy to me. I don't think I specifically know how to put it on.

The eyeliner, exactly how do you put in on, I mean like how far along the eyelid, etc.

And on eyeshadow, how far up and down to i put it on my eye, and is blue a good color? I have green eyes and light auburn colored hair.

It's just not workin for me. But i really want to wear it.

Thanks in advance for anyone's help

  1.      Okay

Start with a foundation-make sure it matches your skin tone so that way you wont have to shades. Ask the make up ppl there what would be the best shade for you.

Then Maybe use some Shimmery blue but not the kind that looks liek ur a clown...blue can be a very hard clor to pull off...Maybe start with some browns. dont go up to your eyebrows go all over where your eye ball is dont go higher until you know how to use it....

For eyeliner i would start wit the pencil pull the bottom of your eye out a little and put that on from one side to the other to make your eyes pop.

I wouldnt do lipliner yet....just do sum lip gloss

    good luck!

  2. The first thing you want to remember is to match your skin tone. Black maskarra and eyeliner is far too dark for most people.

You also want quality products, not only are they better for you skin but they apply better as well. When you are learning how to use something you really want it to go on well. I would asume Hot Topic is not the place for quality makeup

The best advice I can give is to go to Macy's or some other department store and ask the person at the Clinique counter to help you pick out tones for you skin and show them you how to apply a trendy look.  If something new comes out that I like I still go there and ask, I use there eye products but nothing else.

You will be spending a bit more up front, an eye liner pencil is $14 and I think the eye shadow is the same but they last along time. I bought my last eye liner in December and its maybe half gone.

    But a quick how to:

Eye Shadow: its best to use 2 colors, one along the outside, and one on the inside, blend them together with a soft brush. A little tip is after you have it on, use your lighter color to a tiny, tiny dot above your eye liner (which you dont yet have on, so this can wait 'til last) blend it in if it stands out too much, this will give the effect you eyes are larger and draw peoples attention to the center of your eye.

Eye Liner: Line the bottom outside half of your eye, stopping (when looking forward into the mirror) at the out side of your pupal. DO NOT line the inside of your eye, ONLY put liner on area were you have bottom lashes or you can cause a nasty eye infection (and it will come off fast on the inside). Then line the top of your lid right above the lashes.  Take your finger and rub up on the corner of your eyes to make the place the line meets turn up (Up makes your eyes look bigger, happier. Down makes you look sad, tired, druppy)

    Add mascara last.

Order for over all makeup, (Contacts if you were them) Cover up, (if you use) Foundation, eye shadow, eye liner, blush, mascara/lipstick.

Good luck :) Remember too little is far better looking then too much, and the best trick to make-up is looking like you aren't wearing much or any.

  3. Well I think you should start with either a pencil or crayon eyeliner, definatly not liquid becuase it is harder to use. So you can just go get a cheap pencil at cvs or something.

  4. Makeup tutorials on youtube help LOTS.

Also, sexier? i think this might help!

  5. liquid is hard, but doable. it will look goofy if you wear it without mascara. mascara will make it look like it belongs. its usually best to make a line growing in thickness starting from the center of your iris.

don't overdo the blue eyeshadow. it shouldn't be worn too often but during the day, just wear it right along the area where you put the eyeliner and smudge it at the top so it looks more "natural".

gently put on the lip liner before the lip gloss. and don't make a bright bold line. make a gentle faint mark outlining the edge of your lips. remember: the top of your lips is an "m" shape. just keep that in mind.

for the lip gloss, that should go over the liner. don't overdo this either. just make sure to "color inside the lines" and only add a slight change in color to your natural shade.

  6. eyeliner: put the eyeliner on the bottom of your eyes all along until the edge which is a bit sensitive. Eye pencil is easier to put on aswell.

eyeshadow: lots of people put eyeshadow n differently but i think that it looks nicer when you just put it on your eyelids. Blue is a nice colour if u are not shy to stand out a bit.

Just try different colours and see which one's look nicer on your skin tone. Hope i helped :)

  7. ditch the blue eyeshadow and red lipliner pleez! also try drugstores, target, dept. stores, the mall :]

  8. I think you may have picked a tricky mix for a beginner.  First, liquid eyeliner and solid eyeliner look exactly the same, but liquid is WAY tougher to put on.  I'd ditch that and pick up an inexpensive pencil version.  This is what I would recommend for you:

Line only the bottom of your eye because it's easier and looks cleaner.  Line from the inner corner to the outer corner and no further because that cat-eye thing just looks goofy in my opinion.

For the eyeshadow, blue is fine.  Apply it from the inner corner to the outer corner, a tad bit farther out if you feel ambitious.  Go from the lash line to about a half centimeter above the crease.  Make sure to add some black mascara, too.

Red lip liner and blue eyeshadow together is too much.  Generally if you have bold eyes, do pale lips.  If you have bold lips, do more subdued eyes.  Also, pink and red do not go together.  I'd just go with the lip gloss.

  9. I'm not trying to be mean, but you don't really want to put full-on makeup on if it's your first time using it. Also, there's no need to wear buckets of makeup to make yourself appear sexier. Less is more and guys like it that way.

  10. I would suggest going to a makeup store in the mall such as MAC, Estee Lauder, etc. My personal favorite is definitely MAC. They are very modern and not as expensive as the rest but i'm not saying they're cheap either. Take a look at their website (www.maccosmetics.com) and check out the prices. Then find the store nearest you and go in there and just tell them that you want them to do your makeup. After all that's what they're there for! Just tell them what you like and they'll try their best to make it happen. If you like what they do they will sell you the specific products they used on you that day and tell you how they achieved your look. Good luck i'm sure you'll look beautiful!

  11. Since you're a beginner, start off with pencil eyeliner first because liquid eyeliner takes experience and skill, or else you could easily mess up.

    - Start off with a sharpened pencil for a precise line, and start from the center and work in and out. Do it in separate little strokes because it is hard to make a perfect line with one stroke.

As for blue eyeshadow, apply it to your crease with a crease brush and blend it in, you want to to look sheer and perfect. I wouldn't recommend blending it too far up your eye, because it could look clownish. The crease is the part of your eyelid that's closest to your lash line.

    - Some cream eyeshadow is recommended for a base so that your shadow goes on smoother and lasts longer. By the way, since you're just starting off with makeup, don't go with a bold color like blue. Start off with something neutral, like gold or brown so that you don't look too obvious. A natural look is better for everyday wear.

    - Mascara is recommended if you have thin or very straight textured eyelashes. If you already have curly, thick ones, why bother? Curl lashes with an eyelash curler if desired, and wiggle the mascara wand at the root of your lashes and lift up to the tip. Apply 1 or 2 coats - too many coats could cause clumping as well as smudging. Waterproof mascara holds curls better than washable, but it's also hard to remove.

As for lip liner ... I personally don't really like most lip liners because they dry out my lips. However, if your lips don't dry out easily, or the lip liner you bought was moisturizing, line your lips first then fill in with the pencil to create a long-lasting base for you lip gloss.

    - The method for applying lip gloss is pretty self explanatory, start off at the center of your bottom lip, and spread it out. Apply more on top lip as desired, but I just put some on the bottom lip and rub my lips together to get an even color/shine.

  12. For first time makeup user, you picked harsh colors. The goal using makeup is to "perfect" ur skin tones and look natural, not "made up". Red lipstick/liner is hard to pull off on anyone, go for natural shades like nude or light/clear pink or my favorite, plain gloss. Most guys, when asked, prefer a girl to look natural as well (if thats what ur going for). Green eyes work well with brown shades of shadow, nothing too strong or over bearing. BEFORE applying ANY makeup, cleanse your skin well (Clinique bar soap works SO well & lasts forever). Get a foundation that matches your skin tone, and buy a brush to apply it (using a brush keeps bacteria from your fingers off your face... that leads to acne!). Make sure when u use any powder/ foundation you BLEND around the edges of your face & jawline, because SO many girls dont and you can notice a distinct line around their jaws (gross!). Once you even your skin tone out, use a concealer to cover up little blemishes/under your eyes to conceal dark circles. Apply blush by smiling big :) and running the brush (not the same one as ur foundation brush) along your cheek bones LIGHTLY- remember, natural is better, a subtle hint of pink looks best, not a huge streak of bright pink across your face. Next, buy a eyebrow pencil in a medium brown shade, not too dark, and fill in the natural shape of your brows LIGHTLY, you arent "coloring" them youre shading them. use a Q-TIP to fix any mistakes or lighten the area up after applying. Dont use harsh eye makeup colors unless you know how to apply them, which u will figure out over time, otheriwse ur gonna look like a clown :) Dont worry about using eye liner, its messy and dont really matter, it kinda gives girls that "made up, going out look" which isnt really the best everyday look (maybe try it later once u are used to make up). Get yourself some WATER PROOF mascara (so if u cry or it rains its not all over ur face, ahh embarassing!) Choose a dark or medium brown, not black its too harsh w.ur haircolor. Apply evenly top & bottom lashes, not too thick. Also get a eye makeup remover while ur there, i highly recommend Almay moisterizing makeup remover pads. They leave a little oily reside behind but they work well and u can wipe ur eyes when ur done. U will need something more than soap & water to gently remove ur waterproof mascara w/o damaging ur lashes- if ur lashes break, they look horrible and take forever to grow back... trust me haha. Make sure u remember to moisturize (before putting on makeup... and give it like 5mins to dry before applying makeup) I highly recommend Clinique gel moisturizer. Clinique may be alittle more money than most other brands but there is a reason, ive tried SO many different products, expensive & cheap, and this brand by FAR is the best. IT really lasts forever (my soap bar is used 2x daily and i still have half a bar left and its been over a year! it costs like $12.50 i think- which most people are like oh w/e i can get something for $5. which is true, but it runs out way faster and doesnt work as well). So trust me, its worth it. If ur not sure about how to do it, you can go to Macys or somewhere similar, go to the makeup area like where clinique is (they have all those makeup things set out for people to try), and ask them if there is a time when you could come and they could show u how to apply makeup and find a good natural look. They always do stuff like this for people, they are trained professionally to, and usually they are so bored they are excited to do a "makeover". just tell them ur situation about not really wearing makeup and u wanna know how to do it correctly. Tell them u want to fill in ur brows, learn foundation, etc (they will proabbaly already plan on doing the entire face w/you). Ask questions and watch how they apply things. Its really helpful, and make sure u tell them u wanna improve ur look but still stay natural. Afterwards, they might try to get you to buy some makeup, just tell them u have senstitive skin and wanna wait a few hours to see if u have any problems (if u dont wanna buy anything right then) which can quickly get u out of there haha) OR u could say that THEN ask about their soaps, they will help u pink out that too. They will ask if u have dry/oily skin and get u soaps that are best for you. Dont be shy to ask them to put the makeup on you, they always are trying to do it to people when im in there, and if u ever go there, they are usually applying it to themselves or each other for fun. My friend used to work there, and she would tell me about people who come in to ask for help w/applying makeup, so its not weird :)  Good luck!!!!
