  1. I had bagpipes. It was beautiful and probably the best thing about the day.

I couldnt tell u what songs I had as my cousin planned it for me and they whole day is a blur now lol but something faster for the bridesmaids and something really slow and sweet for you.

All the best and enjoy the day

  2. something from Braveheart soundtrack, im sure there was some tunes on it with Bagpipe's playing in it.

  3. I don't know why, but Groovy Kind of Love comes to mind.

Bagpipes are a tough instrument as they have such a unique sound, I suppose you could do Canon in D...but you definitely should be doing a slower song as bagpipes aren't known for their fast tempo and are usually associated with sadness, but if your friend plays then he probably has a nice repertoire of songs for all occasions. But, I wonder if it would be difficult to find music for just any old song....

Your question interested me so I did a search and came up with a wedding bagpipe group - who knew?

Here's a link to their site which has the songs they play. In looking at the list I think Amazing Grace (if not too traditional) or Blackbird are nice choices.

I'm sure it will be pretty cool and unique to have the bagpipes!  Good Luck!

Hey Ironbrew - you know where you can put your rubbish?  Seriously, I said that bagpipes are known for their fast tempo and are usually associated with sadness.  Surely you have a different experience with the instrument, but I was referring to what we common folk who don't play associate them with.  In my case that would be the music played while they walk through the Irish bars on St. Patty's Day, and of course what they play at funerals.  Both are not particularly fast tempo.  That's all I was saying.

And I found another website with wedding song suggestions

  4. Highland Cathedral is used for walking up the aisle -

I like Ode to Joy, too -

    For recessional -

I would definitely fit Mull of Kintyre in there somewhere - a beautiful song and melody.

  6. "...but you definitely should be doing a slower song as bagpipes aren't known for their fast tempo and are usually associated with sadness,"

That's rubbish !   Obviously isn't familiar with the pipes.  I would go with what the piper feels comfortable with.  Don't make demands like Canon in D which in my opinion isn't a good fit for a wedding.  For the processional, I favor The Bluebells of Scotland.  Depending on what your plans are, I've done Mairi's Wedding into Murdo's Wedding , into the Bronw Haired Maideen and finishing with the Highland Laddie.   But those are all quick marches and if your'e coming in really slowly, they don't match up quite right. Maybe Bluebells into For Ireland I'll not tell her Name?   That's why you need to talk to your piper !  Recessional...Almost always I suggest going out ot Scotland the Brave and if I'm to play some while the church empties, I'll do the aforementioned tunes.  My last wedding, I was asked to play some really upbeat tunes, so I played some hornpipes and Jigs before I left.

BTW...also check with your clergy...  I've been asked to play the wedding march and most churches won't allow it.  I've had some Catholic priests tell me ' No Irish tunes'.

  7. look into what is traditional at weddings.

ask the bagpipe community what they usually play at weddings.

    what's played in the motherland?

  8. u shud ask those bagpipe guys for suggestions.....they wud  know which songs wud sound best when played wid a bagpipe

  9. that is a cool idea!
