  1. Might only need greasing.  Have your service guys check it out.

  2. 2 possible solutions come to mind.

    1.  Grease the steering cable fittings.  These are usually located in the rear of the boat in the rudder box.  If you follow your steering cable to the back of the boat you will see at least 2 grease nipple fittings.  Make sure you use "marine" grade grease.

    2.  Depending on the wear and tear of the cable, you might need to replace it.  This can be done without any special tools.  But it does take some patience.  You may need to take out some of the under dashboard covering and possibly part of the floor board.  If you are not mechanically inclined, then I do not recommed that you change this yourself, but rather have it serviced at your local marine shop.

Note in passing, my first Mastercraft ski boat had almost 3,000 hrs on the original steering cable.  I never had a problem until I noticed that my steering seemed alittle "stiffer" than usual.  I was always faithful with my maintenance, which included greasing the steering cable fittings.  It was at that point I decided to replace my steering cable, which I was able to do myself.

Whatever you do, don't let this problem go unsolved.  There are only 3 things to control a boat:  steering, the throttle, and your brain!

    Happy skiing, boarding, footin'!!!
