Most of the time I shoot soft but on the shots were you shoot hard to get shape I mess up. I usually get the shape but I miss the ball I was shooting at.

  1. The most common cause of this problem is that you move on the shot.

Make sure you only swing from your elbow (not your shoulder).

If you can't stop doing it,try moving your hand back two inches along the butt.

  2. There are several reasons people miss when they use a hard stroke.

For one, many people have a hard time maintaining their stroke when they hit the ball hard. This means they don't hit the ball where they intend to as often, so they miss more shots.

Also, because of the way the ball reacts when it hits the jaws of the pocket, it is much more likely the ball will rattle out if they do not hit center pocket. This is due to physics, and there really isn't anything you can do about it.

Lastly, the balls react differently to each other when you hit the ball harder. Deflection, throw, and swerve are all properties that will change depending on how hard you hit the ball. Learning to deal with these comes mostly from experience.

  3. It's very easy to "miss hit' the cue when stroking harder than normal. Most people end up with unintended english on the ball, thereby 'throwing' the object ball off target. The longer the shot, the further off it will be. Pay particular attention to where you are striking the cue ball on your power shots.
