I am heading to Europe for 10 days in July but I don't know what is manageable in terms of places to visit!

I have to go to London for work for 9 days, but then I have another 9 on top of that to do as I please which is very exciting!

I am 25 and I will be roughing it in hostels. I was thinking of spending the whole thing in Ireland, or starting in barcelona and taking the rail to italy, visiting places along the way. Is that too much to cram in? I have to be back in london for my flight.

What do you guys think?

  1. I took an 8 day trip through Italy, which I went to Venice, Florence, Pisa and Rome and it was definitely manageable, but I would definitely recommend spending a few days in Barcelona. For the most part 2 or 3 days in each city is a good time because it allows you to see the big things. If I were you, I would start out in Barcelona, go to Florence, take a day trip from Florence to Pisa (it's only an hour away by train and very cool) and then spend the rest of the time in Rome. But I'm sure any where you go would be wonderful!

  2. I agree with the other answerers that you should not do too much.

I think 2 countries, including England, is enough, anymore will be a lot of traveling.

If in those 9 days working in London you do not have time to see the country, spend your other 9 days seeing Britain, or split them between England and one other country.

For each town you will loose half a day getting a place to stay, and if there are long distances involved a whole day.

You will be back in Europe, enjoy it and you will want to return, but cram everything in and you do not remember why you would want to come.

If you really want to see Italy, try to get an open jaw ticket, arriving in London and leaving from one of the Italian cities. And fly between London and Italy.

  3. 9 days isn't really that much time to spend travelling in Europe. As an Irish person I wouldn't recommend spending it in Ireland. There are so many places in Europe that are way more fun and interesting. If you're going to be in London, you'd be mad not to take the Channel tunnel over to Paris. From there you could get a rail ticket and in 9 days could probably see Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Italy and then be back in France to get the Channel back. Although it would be a real cram fest and you'd spend a lot of time on trains. Maybe spend a few days in France and then a few days in Italy. You could even take a boat over to Malta for a day trip. Wherever you end up, enjoy!
