  1. Your mom. A check is usually mean tto be a positive symbol. Like when you make a list of things to do and you check off the things you accomplished already. An X is usually the best sign to indicate something is not positive, or something is incorrect. A circle could work as well because it will draw attention to something that you should look back on and try to improve.

  2. It does not matter. But as in all cases, what the teacher says is gospel. If mom wants X's them giver her X's. The same goes for college professors. Life's too short to worry with the little things. Pick your battles carefully.

  3. my mom always uses a check (i think it's more noticeable)

  4. In my sons school the check marks indicate a wrong answer, and always has.  I would have to say that you are right on this one.

  5. Mom is always right.

I had the same conversation with my son when he came out of public school.

Old school here....  An X means wrong in our homeschool.

  6. Your mother is right.  A check typically indicates a correct response, not an incorrect one.

  7. It really doesn't matter.  Some people learned to place a small check mark by correct answers (as in, checking them off), while other people learned to place a check by incorrect answers.  It's a matter of opinion, though it's not worth fighting with her about.  It's 6 of 1, half dozen of another.  :-)

  8. A check mark usually means it's correct and an x means it's incorrect.

  9. It makes no difference as long as you know what the mark means.

  10. Well when I was in public school, they usually put checks by the things that we wrong, like you are saying.  However, that made no sense to me, since checks are usually used to indicate something that has been completed.

I don't think anyone ever X'd anything of mine, but I have had them circled.  Who really cares though?  If you mom likes circles, just go with circles.

  11. I AM HOME SCHOOLEDTO!!!!!!!!!!

  12. I don't know what you mean by 'a check' (I'm not American, lol!). Here 'check' is a verb, not a noun. Cheque is a noun but a cheque is what you write out when you want to pay a bill!

Here, one would use a cross ( X ) if something is incorrect and a tick (is that what you mean by 'check') if it is correct.

I wouldn't fret too much either way though as long as you know what the symbol means: I'm 15 and home-educated and we never mark our schoolwork 'right' or 'wrong' in any way (just underline or circle anything that needs more revision).

  13. Your mother is right. Put a X or circle the incorrect answers. If you do it that way you will know which ones you truly got wrong.

  14. This is not an issue of who is right, and who is wrong.

Since she is your mother, and primary instructor you respect her wishes, and follow her instructions; it's as simple as that.

  15. That's confusing.

When I taught, I put an "x" or a slash through the wrong answers and left the correct answers alone. Usually a checkmark indicates a correct answer.

However, neither one of you is "right"--people use different grading methods. Mine was the easiest for me.

  16. Well, it does not really matter but the norm is that you check something that is correct and mark something that is incorrect with an x.  Since she is your parent/teacher, it does not matter anyway-SHE is right.

  17. Doesn't matter as long as the incorrect answers are indicated.  She could put a frowny face if she felt like it.
