I am homeschooled, how do I make friends?

I am homeschooled, and I work full time(only problem I am a nanny for little kids so I don't exactly meet people at work). And because I don't go to school like normal kids, I am at a loss to make friends. I have been to regular schools before, but the friends I have had from before, we have lost touch because we have different schedules. How do I make friends now? I don't have any exciting hobbies or anything either, any suggestions?

  1. You get on the internet and join some chat room. Check with your parents. They need to check that you aren't going to get in trouble.

  2. go out

  3. my space lol

  4. homeschooled and a nanny? how old are you

  5. This is the downfall of homeschooling. Social contact is important.

Do you go to church?  Maybe a youth group somewhere.  Join a YMCA program or just join the YMCA. I use to make tons of friends there when I was a kid or teenager :)

    Keep studying :)

  6. go out side dont be afraid to walk up to young kids ur age and start a conversation before u know it u will have plenty of friends ...jim...

  7. At its very simplest you just have to put yourself out there and start talking to people.

Where do other people hang out in your town/shire?

What activities go on locally? Sports? Swimming? Band? Drama groups? Theatres? Cinema? TAFE? Dance groups? Discos? Homeschool groups? Church, synagogue, mosque, gurdwara or whatever else is appropriate to your cultural background? Venturers? CCF? Young Farmers? Duke of Edinburgh Awards? Working parties?

What activities are there that don't currently go on locally but you could start up and then just advertise for people to join you?

What 'exciting hobbies' are there available locally that you could have a go at?

What about other nannies - did you not befriend anyone when you did your nannying course at college that you could call to "catch up" with? Or talk to other people when you're out and about with the kids, at the park and the library etc. Is there a nannying group in your shire that you could join?

If you want friends, you've really just got to make the time and effort to put yourself out there amongst people!!

  8. There are plenty of things you can do.

You can go to sleep away camp in the summer (and stay in touch through email). You can take a course at an arts and crafts store. You can take a course at the zoo on animals, or at a museum. You can go to night clubs for minors (they do exist). You can join a sports team. Go around your neighborhood, and see if there are any kids ur age that you can hang out with. Or volunteer at a charity event.

    Good Luck!

  9. Yea do an extra curricular activity. Participate in a sport, or a play in your town. Also go work somewhere else if all you want to do is work besides be at home. Go for like Mcdonalds...or the mall..or somewhere. Ask your parents to see what is available out there and you can meet tons of people that way.

  10. try meeting people who live in your street or even if you have one friend go out with them and meet people randomly and then meet people through people *networking is fun*

  11. find a new hobby.  take a class at community college.

  12. Get involved with clubs like 4H, Girl Scouts.  Join a sports team; a swim club at the Y or a gym where you'll interract with other people your age.  Take an aerobics class?  Take a language class at the library or local community center.

  13. u should go out to youth clubs or go to the park, the mall. try to mingle a little bit. or maybe a family member of urs know ppl ur age that u can talk to.

  14. Go to the mall and chill

  15. if you are also working, then you dont have any time to hang out with friends. So why bother?  You will either have to give up working, or give up the friends.

check out the local sports clubs or community centre, or the local theatre group or local choir, local library, bookshop and McDonalds, etc etc.

  16. i twas homeschoold but wen ur generally out like the movies and make convo or save sum1z life(no i didnt save any1z life-but wudda been cool) join a club or getta job where ppl hang out at

  17. Hang out with your cousins friends, neighbors, if you go to church and they have a Youth Group; go there and you can meet lots of people!

You can also just try a new sport, like soccer, volleyball, basket, etc, you have to try new things, and you might meet some really cool people there.

    Good luck!

    :]

  18. My niece is in a troop of all-home-schooled Girl Scouts. Maybe you shouldn't be working full-time? My sister subscribes to home-school magazines and web groups; maybe you could check some of those for social opportunities. I wish you all the best of luck, sweetie. Keep trying!

  19. you can join a club or if you go to church you can make some friends there

  20. Play games online, virtual friends are still friends!

  21. I think the best way to make real life friends would be to join classes or activities that people take outside of school.

Like some kind of summer camp or art class or whatever you want.

Make sure not to join a lame-sounding one because then the people there will be lame.

  22. I am at a loss too.  No hobbies and no interest?  No time?  I guess if I were that way, I would not have time to miss having friends.

I'm sorry.   Maybe you could make friends online?

  23. Talk to neighbors, go to the mall and don't be afraid to introduce yourself.  Oftentimes, the local high schools allow homeschooled students to participate in afterschool clubs and activities.  It would be a good way to find a new hobby and some new friends.

  24. Go out, walk in your city, just go out where a lot of people around, you can meet people anywhere. Where ever they are. Volunteer for activities or go to/help out at a camp if you're able to.

  25. Try to visit the library on a regulker basis. Most plp go there for one reason or another, so ur bound to meet freinds.

  26. Im sorry to hear that.. I hate the idea of home schooling children because it keeps them from making friends.. Ive gone to public school all my life, so I wouldnt know.. Maybe you could go to the mall or something and hang out with someone in your age group or close to it.. Good luck!

  27. I would say think of something that sounds interesting to you...a new hobby, and see if there is any place to take classes or events you can attend to regarding some hobbies. I'm assuming you're busy if you're working full time and are homeschooled, but remember it's always important to create a balance in your life. Go to concerts (everyone likes music, right?) volunteer, join clubs, go to parks, beaches, travel!! Take some time for yourself to enjoy it and make friends. Sounds like you deserve it. Best of luck :]

  28. You would make good friends at a local youth group of your church!

  29. myspace! XD

  30. try going around your nieghborhood to see if kids your age live there. or you coul go to a local hang out place and start socializing!

  31. I was homeschooled too.  There actually are many kids like you who feel like they don't have any friends, so there are a few homeschool groups you can get in contact with.  I found a lot of cool friends in homeschool groups.  Don't worry, they don't sit around and talk about school subjects!  It's usually fun field trips, like going to parks in your area, going bowling, or just hanging out.  And what's really cool, is you can all do this on a school day when hours are less busy.  You should search online for "teen homeschool groups/clubs in (your city here)".  Once you do get in contact with some friends, organize things you guys can do, like skating, miniature golf, going to theaters, or whatever, and tell your friends to bring along their friends so you can meet new people.  I don't recommend chat rooms, since you have no way of knowing that the people you're talking to are actually who they say they are.  Good luck to you!  I'm sure you'll find some friends.  =)
