To be more specific I like good explanations for concepts and not TOO many problems for ONE concept but review is fine.

  1. For math I do recommend Saxon it teaches a new concept in each chapter, with 5 or more problems to re-enforce it, and than gives a brief review of the concepts covered previously.

Most start with either 6/5 or 7/6 in the sixth grade if you are pretty good at math 8/7 will do fine.

  2. Look at Teaching Textbooks:

Why are you looking for curricula and not your parents????

  3. Tell your parents to enroll you with the Grace Academy School they have a very good math program. My daughter is enrolled in that school and she loves it .

  4. I would check out Saxon Math, probably the 65 program, but take a placement test at their website to be sure you start where you belong.

    Good luck!

  5. My son loves Math U See...he learns quickly, gets all the review he needs.  It's short, sweet, too the point...and fun :-)

  6. I used Math-U-See all through my math-related subjects. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone.

  7. My daughter who finds math to be difficult also loves Math U See.  The teacher is kinda cheesy but the manipulatives help her work out the problems and she really gets it.

My other daughter chose Saxon and loves it, though often times the lesson has little to do with what she just read in her text book.  She likes the review.

I think the key to series is great.  I found them to be so easy to work through.  Short lessons, easy to teach yourself.

I would check all three and see if one looks right for you.

  8. We use ACSI Math, which is a nice blend of concept development, calculation practice, and thinking skills. (This one is very rigorous and high academic)

You may want to check out Basic Math Skills by AGS. Its companion book is Life Skills Math.

Making Math Meaningful is very conceptually-based.

Math-U-See is also a good program with a video teacher to instruct and manipulatives to show the concepts.
