The veteran Indian batsman, Rahul Dravid, was delighted after scoring his 35th century in Test cricket, in the first innings of the fourth match of the npower series. He thrashed an unbeaten 146 at the Kennington Oval, London, inviting comparisons with former
batsman, Sunil Gavaskar.
He surpassed the 34 centuries scored by the Indian legendary batsman, Sunil Gavaskar.
Gavaskar played 125 Tests for his record, while Dravid secured them in 156 matches, which reflects the class of the former Indian batsman.
'Sunny' was the backbone of the Indian batting, the right-hand batsman became the first batsman in the history to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket and was the first to cross the 30 centuries mark as well.
He was a prominent opener and mainstay of the team, and faced the challenging bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, without wearing a helmet.
The 62-year-old has played 125 Tests for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and scored 10122 runs at an average of 51.12 runs, the best of unbeaten 236 runs, with 34 hundreds and 45 fifties.
Dravid acknowledged the brave batting by Sunil in his era, which was encouraging for the youngsters.
The 38-year-old was pleased after dispatching his 35th century in longer version of the game while offering his sentiments for Gavaskar, saying,
"Gavaskar's name would be discussed when you name a World XI. He scored those hundreds without wearing helmets against the West Indian fast bowlers. He is a legend of the game. It's satisfying to score my 35th hundred."
Dravid is the only Indian batsman who has negotiated against the lethal bowling attack of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 during the recent series against England.
The right hand batsman is the top scorer for the visitors by thrashing 461 runs at an excellent average of 76.83 runs, the best of unbeaten 146 runs, with three centuries.
He has played 156 Tests prior to the fourth Test against England and scored 12616 runs averaging 52.56 runs, the best of 270 runs, with 34 centuries and 60 fifties.
