it be switched to a work visa or do I have to go back to the United States and start the paperwork from there? Does anyone know of anyone who has attained work while they were on a tourist visa and chose to relocate and not just under the table

i think your best bet me may to call the American Embassy or the Italian Consulate, you can check the nearest one where you are or if your in Italy there are only 3 in Italy, Naples, Rome & I believe Florence or Milano.... and ask from there if maybe you will be able to start your paper work from Italy instead of traveling back to the US.  My husband is an italian citizen and we got married 2 years ago here in the US, he had to get his green card and become a resident of the US, and a SSN before he could work here, but in italy I am not sure.  i do however know someone that while in Italy obtained his papers to come to the US and within 3-4 weeks was already here with Green card and all.  I think that italian laws may be bit more lenient as opposedd to American laws. (after 9-11 alor has changed in the US).  however, contact the US Consulate first and ask if you need to go through them or the Italian Embassy, but I would definitley ask before i traveled abroad!

Most countries do not like foreigners in their country to change from visa type to another and I assume Italy is the same. It will be difficult to change from a tourist visa to a work visa whilst in Italy. It will be advisable to return back to the US to arrange the Italian work visa.

It better to get the work visa before you go, believe me I know. I went to italy on a tourist visa and worked under the table for 2 years untill someone sponsered me. This was a few years ago, Now with the net I'm sure you can get all your info and some possible jobs before you go, depends on your job, also speaking italian is a must!!!

you DO NOT need any visa to travel to Italy with a US passport  can visit for 90 days  as for jobs  the many university graduates are all unemployed and they do frown of visitors applying for the limited jobs (part time available  ) salaries average about 1000 USD per month   wow all the posting are 1000000 & wrong  NO visa required just came back from Italy and trust me there are no jobs  even going in the volunteer Army takes adiploma nd  sponsorship by high political appointees   i have 3 nephwes all university graduates 2 work 4 hrs  day in retail for 700 USD  per month no disrespect    sorry even prostitues are unemployed
