  1. You WILL be able to use the phone.

    But obviously not the sim card.

    International Roaming only applies to Plan Sim Cards!

  3. Optus prepaids cannot roam in Japan (it appears that even though your phone handles WCDMA-2100 - the same band as japanese 3G service with Softbank/Docomo - the prepaid system only uses GSM, and there is no GSM service anywhere in Japan), see the link from the Optus website:

    Even if your phone is unlocked, you will likely be limited to renting a handset, since tourists cannot buy prepaid service in Japan (need to present an alien registration card or japanese driver's license at point of sale).

  4. yes you can use it but just have to buy a new sim card when you get to tokyo,..roaming is only aply if your on plan,..

  5. Better to rent a phone at the airport- you know it will work and will prob be much cheaper
