I am in Iraq working with Georgian forces. Why shouldn`t we help them ?

Every soldier I know wants to know why we are letting this **** happen in Georgia? The p***y russians are helping Iran who help the terrorist we battle daily. Wake up america support us , we are tired of hearing all the **** that comes from our own media

Innocent Ossetian's huh?..Hows that?..The only reason Georgia went into S.Ossetia is those innocent Ossitian's were lobbing rockets and mortars into Georgia durring a cease fire..And dont give me that INVADED C**P..S.Ossettia belongs to Georgia..Even the Russians have addmitted to this..So how can a country invade itself..

Russia does'nt like the fact that Georgia wants to become a part of NATO and the EU..Russia was just itching for an excuse to go into Georgian territory..

And I have met Georgian Soldier's in Iraq..Their good people and great soldiers..

This is a major proxy war, it seems bro. However, we can't help Georgia as we need Russia to mediate with Iran about his nuclear ambitions. Do you see how it's all a cycle?

And our media are mostly pro-US...just like how it is in Russia. Russia's media talks about Russia's domination and right to invade Georgia in russiatoday.com. So much for free speech and democracy!

Do not say that USA should stay out of this entirely! All this is happening because Georgia is an ally of united states. This is the reason why Russia is mad. If USA does not want to do anything with the matters like this, than just refuse the status of Super-country, interests in different parts of the world and do not claim to be preacher of democracy in the world...

I am not saying, that usa should send troops and challenge Russia openly, turning georgia into a USA-Russian war polygon would bring even more disaster and destruction, but more active steps need to be taken from europe and united states - more pressure, sanctions, anything...

people are dying, when russian drop bombs at night. when people are still sleeping in their apartment...

World should not tolarate this...

It's politics.  It's not about friends or who's right and who's wrong.  Politics is like a game of chess, you have to manuever and think you can't act on emotion alone.   We rely on Russia for alot of things.  SO the biggest stance we are likely to take on this is by publicly denouncing Russia's attack and leaving it at that.  It my not be fair but no one ever claimed politics was fair.

Leaving aside the morals for a second, think about the practicalities.

How precisely would the US get forces into Georgia, and in enough numbers to fight the third biggest military in the world on their own doorstep?

Russia could finish off the Georgian forces whilst Congress held the debate.

I have just been reading the Janes Country Risk Assesment which compares the sizes of the two militaries.

Georgia has got 82 Tanks

Russia has got 6,717

Georgia has got 7 combat aircraft

Russia has got 1,206

Georgia has 26,000 military personell

Russia has 641,000

Georgia has 95 heavy artillery pieces

Russia has 7,550

Put on your cape or Iron Man suit and go over there to defeat the Russians. All sorts of bad things happen around the world everyday and the US doesn't stop it from happening. This is one war that has the potential to start a big one. I suggest we be smart and stay out of it unless it REALLY affects us!
