Are the buildings in reno, particularly sky scraper casions built in the last 5 decades as safe and prepared as Southern California's buildings? or would a 6.0 knock everything down?

  1. Reno buildings are relatively low to the ground. Only the downtown casinos (and the outliers) are really tall, unless that has changed dramatically since I lived there. While Nevada doesn't have the same building codes that California has I think they'd do OK, but that's just a guess.

Also, the earthquake risk has nothing to do with Reno's proximity to a plate boundary. Earthquake activity there is most likely to come from the active basin and range. That whole area (NV and most of UT) is being stretched (under extensional stress). That's where the quakes come from.

  2. h**l naw!

  3. you have to try that by your self

  4. I just moved away from Reno after 10 year of h**l in that place....yeah, you are okay.  Not that I wouldnt buy a ticket to see them fall, as long as no one was hurt...

  5. highways collapsed at epic centers of oakland and northridge in CA with less than 6.5 quakes.  Do you know how big and how strong concrete posts of the highways?

Only Price Fister building could stand strong above Northridge epic center, the whole frame is made of steel like an aircraft career on the ground.

  6. The plate is pretty far from Reno I dont think you will feel it.
