I am in a lease, but....?

i cant afford my rent anymore. is there any government assistance available that will not require me to break my lease?

if you're unemployed, then you can try unemployment assistance.  if you're disable, then you can try disability assistance.  you can also try discussing with the landlord that you can no longer afford the place and to give you 60 days to move out while he finds a new tenant.  most landlords are reasonable folks.  tell them it's better they find a better tenant who will be able to afford the rent, then for you to default and having to go to court.
